im playing as Turkey (hard/aggressive) its 1498 and im currently the badboy with a value of 5 (England is close 2nd with 4 and several countries have a value of 3) and I went after Persia for their gold mine that borders me. after getting three provinces from persia, losing one to their ally (the mamelukes), and having five stars, i offered peace to persia and saw an offer for conversion, canceled out of that and took two provinces (including the gold mine :))
but i was wondering about conversion
is there a benefit to converting a nation other than earning VP?
when i go to war, i generally have set goals such as conquering specific provinces and stopping as soon as I get them in a peace settlement.
is it worth it to have a goal of conversion? i was thinking that forcing persia to be sunni would be good for our diplomacy should i wish in the future to diplomatically annex them
but if i decide to instead opt to take care of them militarily, wouldn't a conversion actually serve as a hindrance since i will lose stability for declaring war on someone of the same faith? am i missing any other strategic factors that play a role in deciding whether to convert?
meanwhile, i wanted some colonists so i started a war against venice and took ragusa (as well of one of their mediterranean islands) so now ive got one a year, which given my current lack of maps, is fine for now, though, when, if ever, does colonial dynamism usually kick in for turkey
lastly, ive set up a couple of royal marriages and have an alliance with crimea and the hedjaz, tho i am constantly out of diplomats. meanwhile, my relations with most other places (especially in europe) started out bad and gave stayed that way and im thinking of trying to change that. playing enland, france, and portugal first has spoiled me in that im used to having a steady stream of diplomats. does turkey ever get more than one diplomat a year? heh it seems that if i want more diplomats i should start a war. somehow i don't think thats the best option
anyway to increase the number
thanks in advance for any and all responses

Converting them will only affect their state religion, not their provinces, so they will suffer from more revolts as a result.
thanks for the quick reply Dark Knight, hadn't thought of that, pretty devious
anyone else have any ideas regarding conversion or the colonial dynamism and diplomat questions i asked
thanks again

thanks for the responses Huszics and Mellon.
though, id rather play without using any of the cheats
any other ideas for reasons to use conversion? and can't it serve as a hindrance as well since in the future you'd be declaring war on nations of the same faith? any other pros/cons?
also, any idea for a colonial dynamism date, if any, for turkey
thanks again

If you plan to keep fighting Persia and taking a province at a time, then conversion is a bad idea.

On the other hand, if you want peace and quiet in the East so you can send your armies to beseige Vienna, then a Sunni Persia will lose stability if _they_ declare war on _you_. Plus, as you say, you can offer them a Royal Marriage and maybe annex them. In my recent GC as Turkey, I converted the Persians and then got the Inheritance random event :)

Regarding colonial dynamism: Turkey does get this for a short time in the 16th century, but it goes away again quickly. I can't remember the dates, unfortunately.

I converted the Mamelukes (again, as Turkey) and there after declared war on Persia which their allies, the Mamelukes, felt obliged to join. Penalty to the Mamelukes. :)

They do seem to be easier to take out now. Of course, that may be because I already have 1/2 their provinces. ;)
