I recently sent the following e-mail to one of your techincal support resources that helped me resolve my copy protection problem with version 1.04, and that I was hoping might assist me with 1.05, but I haven't heard back from him, so I thought I would post it here. I have a copy protection problem that, when I load the 1.05 patch, causes the game not to load, and I get no error message at all. I encountered a similar problem with 1.04, but the file that Nabil sent me corrected the problem. Do you have a similar file for 1.05? Or is there something else that I can do to correct the problem.

The technical information for my computer is at the end of this e-mail string.

Regards,

Chris

Hello,

You previously sent me a file that allowed me to use the NA 1.04 patch for EU2, and I was wondering if you could send me something similar for the latest patch. When I installed the latest patch I encountered the same problems I saw before you sent me this file. Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Chris

Subject: Copy Protection Problem with EU2

I believe that I am experiencing a copy protection problem with EU2.
Whenever I try to open the game, it spins my CD-ROM drive, then quits, with
no error message or any other indication of what the problem may be._ I
upgrade my machines quite frequently, and this happens from time to time
when I upgrade._ I have, to this point, just quit paying the game whenever
the problem occurred, as all of your message boards seem to indicate that
it is a problem that has been fixed in the patches, or is unfixable._ I'm
going to keep my current computer for a long time, however, and I would
like to get my favorite game to work on it if at all possible._ Please let
me know what I need to do the get this problem resolved.

Some technical specs:

Dell Latitude C610
1.2 Ghz
256MB Ram
Windows 2000 Service Pack 2
Radeon ATI Video Card
Samsung CDRW/DVD Combo drive
Lots and lots of available hard disk space.

I have upgraded EU2 to 1.04NA patch.

Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

Chris

This is a strange problem indeed. Let's try a few things:

First off, could you confirm that you do, indeed, have the correct original CD. For the NA Version it should have the Strategy First logo, Infogames logo and Paradox logo at the bottom of the CD.

Next, do you by any chance have 2 copies of EU2 installed on the same machine? On some systems this causes a problem with copy protection (I have no idea why  )

Next...If you do a complete uninstall (see directions in the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum) and then re-install, are you having any trouble with that installation?

If not, patch directly from 1.00 to 1.05 using the download in the Paradox website (I say this because I happened to do this last weekend so I know that the patch works just fine).

Lastly...EU2 often doesn't recognise a CD with a drive assignment other than D;\ or E:\. Is your CD-ROM one of those? If not...remap.

If that doesn't work then I'm afraid you'll have to try Nabil again. For obvious reasons they do not typically make a patch available that defeats their copy protection because this would make it way too easy for pirated versions to begin flooding the market. If it's something gone awry with your CD then they might be willing to replace it but that would be SF's decision.

Let me know how it works out.

PS:

I am presuming that all of your drivers are up to date, that you're running DirectX 8.1 etc... Have a look at the various fixes in the FAQ sticky in case you haven't already.

unfortunately, there isn't much we can do for you.

you need a special patch that the guys from Strategy First are to send you.
you might want to try this form on their site:
http://www.strategyfirst.com/register/support.htm

or e-mail again Nabil
at nyared@strategyfirst.com

they usually respond quicly but they may be overwhelmed at the moment.

If they still haven't answered you tomorrow night, e-mail me at viper37@sympatico.ca and I'll try to reach them for you.

it won't work. he's got another patch from SF and if he tries to install the official one, it will always say sommink like "wrong EXE file" or "CD Not found".

cterhune:
when you'll e-mail them, attach a copy of all previous correspondance and a link to this site.

Strategy First and Paradox Entertainment are two disctinct companies. Paradox are the programmers and Strategy First are the publishers, the ones making sure you can buy it in store.

Still not working

I still am unable to install the latest patch, and I haven't heard back from Nabil. I have tried all of the various fixes discussed on this support site, and I do have the correct version of the CD. If there is nothing that anyone can do for me, I suppose I will continue to use my older version. Thank you all for your assistance.

Send Nabil another e-mail. At this time of year people can often be out of the office rather a lot and may miss or overlook some of their correspondence. Unfortunatley he'll be the only one who will be able to help you out on this issue.
