OK, I really do understand that you need to protect your development investment - however I also know that copy protection only really serves to protect the initial sales of a game and that the majority of all income from a game comes out within the first 4 to 6 weeks after release.

I suppose what I'm getting at is that I really want to continue playing this game for some time to come, I'd like to do so on my laptop which has an external CD ROM and I'd like to not need it.

What's the chances on Paradox releasing a non-protected version of the patch sometime after the revenues for the game has dropped off?

Not too suprising :-( It is unfortunate that this sort of problem sends otherwise legal customers off hunting for stupid cracks and hacked versions so that they can play the games that they've paid for the way that they want.

We value our customers highly and we really appreciate the support you have given us by buying EU. But, there is no way we could remove the copy protection as not everybody are willing to purchase the game if they can have it for free by making a copy from a friend.

Well I wasn't suggesting that you do it whilst it is still selling well, but lets face it, just how much do you loose if it became unprotected after another 6 months?

Probably doesn't matter, the odds are that I'll switch to EU2 if it comes out in that timeframe.
