Researching the Independent Air Arm doctrine deactivates a bunch of Army-direct Air Force doctrines. Do I presume correctly that if you've already researched those doctrines then their deactivation doesn't matter (IOW, you still get their bonuses)?

If you look, the ones that get deactivated are pretty much identical items to those you already had. If you have already researched them, then you keep the bonuses. The idea is to prevent you (effectively) doubling up the same tech twice, though the two paths are slightly different in their effects, IIRC - I think one version prefers CAS over TAC, and the later one TAC over CAS, though both still get bonuses in each version.

Sort of, yes. Your work on Army-interaction should already be complete with the Army branch - since you can't reach Independent until you complete the Army branch then you should be all set.

Also it would overpower those that start on the Army path.

Hi,

This is the last dance of the MTB.

mm

Hi again dec,
When is this last dance over, together with other announced changes in the naval techs?

Misunderstand my question correct - I mean, is it in a future big far away new fantastic version like 0.3 or is it in a just around the corner patch you’re about to finish within a month or so.

The reason I ask is that I followed the submarine discussion on terranova, but the decisions you posted about 6 months ago is still not in the game. (Regarding VIIB for example). I love CORE naval warfare and your answer will affect my choice of nations to play – should I wait with the naval-heavy ones or not.

Thanks as always for your efforts.

First impression of CORE 0.30

So I finally DL:d CORE 0.30 and I must say I am very impressed. I have played a *lot* of HOI1 and HOI2, mostly MP and mods, lately stoney road to get some real tough AI opposition.

I started up CORE (VH and aggressive for maximum difficulty) and I must say the resource allotment, playing Germany, felt a lot better than any other mod. (Did Germany really have such surplus of steel and such defecit of coal in real life?)

I went for Poland historically, took out France early, made a regular DOW invasion of Scandinavia in mid april when no event had fired for weserubung (is there any?) including Sweden. I then had to ate loads of dissent when Scandinavia couldnt be created and I had to release Sweden and Norway independently.

Actually the Swedish navy sank a transport and 3 cruisers more or less destroying my chances for a successful seelowe. (I had built 4 transports only from 1936.

The british navy made sure I couldt land any troops in England and my only attempt at an invasion was repulsed at the beaches.

I am now subduing the balcans along with Italy and plan to hit Russia early spring 1941.

I especially like that even as Germany I cant research everything but actually have to make choices.

Thanks for a great mod and I really would like to try it in MP one day!

To Sgt Nic: We're discussing what to do about the Navy stuff right now, but it will most likely come in some form before a major release (such as 0.3, ie. 0.4) - we've been referring to it as 0.35 internally when just discussing when to do it. That does not necessarily mean we will do 0.3.2, 0.3.3 and 0.3.4 before doing Naval stuff, though.

Glad you liked it!! This is one of my favorites as well, that we've managed to accomplish this in a meaningful way.

Thanx for quick reply, Baylox.

That will do it for me - its time for the rise of the international, then. The glory of the USA or Germany will have to wait for 0.35.

I downloaded, and installed the latest version for DD last night, as well as the GFX addon. I'm must say I was a little bewildered at first, but now am very impressed, the new tech tree makes me drool just looking at it, I didn't know that much detail was possible with the HOI2 engine.
It's only 1939 right now and I haven't got to far in the techs yet, or even any combat, but I reeeaaallllyyy like the multiple artillery types, SP, non-sp, assault guns,etc...., I also like the way new researched weapons, TD, light armor, etc... improves the abilities of divisions, so it makes them worth while to research even if you don't make attachments of them.

The new industrial tech tree also is very nice, a baddly needed overhaul of the old bland setup.

Questions.
1. Will the USSR gain full industrialization by event?, because I tried them out for a bit, and they were semi-industrialized, I thought the USSR was very proficient in the fields of heavy industry.
2. It is 1939, and the second Japaneses-sino war has not started, is it done by event, or AI switch or some other such device, because I will probably load the game as Japan to manually Dow on china to keep things historical.
3. I was wondering how the combat was, I was playing TRP for a while, and I notice the movements are alot lower, and the defense stats seem to be higher then vanilla, how will the combat work?

Hi,

Glad you like the Armortree. It took me about 1 month solid to develop that beast, but I think it does cover all of the options as well as we can within the limits of the engine. To try and answer:

1. SOV stays SI. Right now there are no changes allowed to the starting Industrial Levels. This is still under review and SOV would be one of the prime possibilities for change as they indeed are borderline. I agree that they were very good with the true "heavy industry" side of things. OTOH, their electronics industry wasn't so good, which is also a part of being Fully Industrialized. Also, they still had a lot of very backward areas.

2. Sometimes JAP doesn't DOW CHI. This shouldn't be often, but it is a possibility. Once they go to war the AI should properly switch so if that is what you wish for go ahead and it should be ok.

3. Combat issues have not been dramatically adjusted from Vanilla, other than the rather obvious unit stats. WE're still working this side, but for 0.30 combat should be more like Vanilla than TRP. In the future we aim for longer combat duration and higher losses.

Combat losses being so low in TRP bugged me a lot, can you make it so a bit more of the damage goes to strength then does to org?

After having overrun SOV in my first VH game in fall 1941 I like about everything with this mod except the inherently weak AI of HOI2.

IS there any plans of including any AI improvment files into CORE?

I have played around with a few of them and let me tell you, they make a difference and would sure add a challenge to the SP version of this mod.

Maybe the UK could get some more off-map supply or less of a peacetime deficit since they cant even afford to feed their standing army etc? I found it annoying to have to trade tech/resources to survive until a few new techs were researched.

Anyhow thanks for a great mod!

I'm actually playing Britain now and I couldn't agree more - you barely have enough to get by - and that's without building anything. Add to that the huge ammounts of IC needed for upgrade/supply from the get go.

Maybe you could start the USSR off as semi-industrialized, and have their 5-year plans change them to full-industrial via event.

I think the USSR should have better IC usage efficiently then Germany(better industrial tech teams?, higher central planning boost?), but a smaller IC base which they historically did. You might be able to mod their electronics specialized teams be a little sub-par to represent their lackluster electronics industry?

Its difficult... I'm not sure SOV really advanced to FI during the time period. Perhaps - perhaps - in the very late forties or early fifties, after the defeat of Germany and a significant time to absorb the spoils might've done the trick to advance their electronics industry enough to be considered FI (though the other aspects - such as industrial spread and quality - remains questionable).

As reference, I can say that I'm not sure Italy is FI today (since there are such large areas of the country that are still mostly agrarian, or non-industrialized rather) and the Russia was doutbful in the 70s/80s.

Note that SOV gains access to all that FI nations do (in regards to industry and secret weapons), just a bit later.

Believe me they are... ;)
