Uhm, yes..was wondering, what exactly are the A-historic possibilities of CORE? I'd like to know prior to downloading it.

Exactly? Wow, that'll take some time to explain, but the somewhat condensed version is the ability to choose ahistorically in the tech trees but mostly options in Events. For example, France can stand up to Germany in the Rhineland, Britain and/or France can stand up to Germany during Munich, Italy can come to the rescue of Austria during Anschluss, greater or non-intervention in the Spanish Civil War for Britani/France/Germany/Italy/Soviet Union and many other things as well.

Note though that not all these are up to the player to trigger, most depend on AI choices that are out of the player's hands regardless (mostly) of which country you play.

I encourage you to at least try CORE and hope that you won't be disappointed (though it can take some getting used to with the heavily revised tech trees, primarily).

speaking of possibilities

Yep, give CORE a go. A terrific mod, am sure you won’t be disappointed.

But speaking of a-historical possibilities, here’s one:

Does Walther Wever have to crash his He 70 in every game? Maybe one time in 10 or 20 he decides not to go to that fateful June 1936 conference in Dresden? A very influential figure in the early history of the Luftwaffe. How far would his influence have stretched? Would he have pursued his plan of developing a strategic and independent air arm for Germany along the lines suggested by General Guilio Douhet’s 1921 work Command of the air (an influential text in the early development of the RAF)? Would these ideas have won over the conflicting ideas of his successors Udet and Jeschonnek who viewed the air force as a sort of flexible artillery? Maybe every now and again the German player gets a tech team ‘Walther Wever’ at the expense of Udet. Maybe this would unlock the independent air arm doctrines and have appropriate techs for the quicker development of strategic bombers…

We have discussed the possibility of being able to appoint Wever instead of Udet in the "Re-organizing the T-Amt" event and also for a small chance of letting him live after his historical crash, but decided against it. Deaths from accidents or natural causes we keep as they are, while trying to add conditions to more conditions-like deaths - such as Udet's eventual suicide. That's actually a pretty good example - there are conditions to this event (Udet's suicide) and if he dies the Mölders also dies (always), but if Udet survives then Mölders will as well.

Molders flew in from the Russian front for Udet's funeral, and the He-111 he was travelling in tried to land in a thunderstorm at Breslau and crashed, killing Molders 5 days after Udet's suicide. He had got married 2 months earlier, and his wife had a daughter who he never therefore saw.

While on the subject of events, would the CORE team be amenable to the submission of an event for the attempted assassination of Hitler 8 Nov. '39 by Georg Elser, which almost succeeded?

In 1938, an ordinary German carpenter named Georg Elser was convinced that Hitler was going to plunge Germany back into war. Elser decided to kill Hitler. He set about his task in stereotypical German fashion, sensibly and methodically.

First, he traveled to Munich for the observance of the November 8 anniversary of the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch, an important Nazi holiday. Hitler was obliged to give a speech at the Burgerbraukeller for these festivities. Elser simply went in afterward and bought a beer. He observed the position of the speaker’s lectern and the structure of the hall. Then he went home and got a job in a quarry that used explosives.

In August 1939, Elser moved to Munich. Every evening he bought dinner in the Burgerbraukeller. After each dinner he hid in a storeroom until the employees left. Then he emerged and worked all night, constructing a hidden cavity in a pillar behind the speaker’s dais. On November 2, 1939, he installed a large homemade bomb. On November 5, he set the timers for the evening of November 8 (remember this is a German bomb, he had a backup timer).

On the evening of November 8, Hitler entered the Burgerbraukeller and gave his speech. Unfortunately, he was an hour early. Due to bad weather, he had decided to use the train instead of displaying his high-tech flair by flying. So he left the hall at 9:07. Elser’s bomb went off exactly at 9:20, not only blasting the lectern but bringing the whole gallery down onto the dais. Instead of killing Hitler and other high-level Nazis, he got only a few low-ranking supporters. (What, you thought this story was going to have a happy ending?)

Elser missed… but not by much. He demonstrated that any individual who put a few months of their time into killing Hitler would have a pretty good chance of success.

Question: 'Post War' Events. Is there any possibility of the Allies keeping Germany under control of the less-radical Nazis, and have them help with the Red Menace?

intelligence possibilities?

Hi again guys,

Just wondering about possibilities for the intelligence system.

1. From an engine and coding perspective, what influence can be exerted by the intelligence system on the rest of the game? Is it possible, for example, for an intelligence ‘success’ to trigger an event?

2. Into the future does CORE have any plans for a more interesting utilisation of the intelligence aspect.

Apologies if this is question covers old ground.

Cheers,

M

1. I may remember incorrectly, but I believe that there are NO intelligence-related triggers.

2. What we are discussing is removing many aspects of it, since many of the intelligence options don't really apply to the 1936 to end-of-war time period, but rather to the post-war (Cold War) period. So I wouldn't get my hopes up here if I were you.

Thanks, removal seems a sensible option - adds very little at the moment.
