I've been having a frequent problem with trying to load games I've saved. Frequently, when I'm trying to load a saved game, the status bar on the splash screen will freeze on "Reading Scenario," and the only way out is to hit <Ctrl-Alt-Delete>. It's not a problem of impatience, as I've let this go for 20-30 minutes on a couple of occasions to no avail. I've lost quite a bit of game time to this, and it's getting really frustrating.

Are these saved games recoverable? How can I prevent this from happening again?

I am running the North American version of EU 1.09. I have plenty of disk space and plenty of memory.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Spence

Does this happen with saves you have initiated or the "Automatic" ones?
The best way to initiate your own save is to do it whilst on the "normal" map screen (Hit the Oak Tree icon first).
To reload: Load up the scenario as though its a new game, Pick the same country ( although if you dont then you can "cheat" and play another nation!). Go to the same "normal" map screen *then* load the saved game.
I would suggest that you turn on the Automatic save option and set it at every year. This is pretty infallible and makes a good back up.
The save routines (I last heard) are being rewritten in the next patch.
