Crusader Kings 2 3.3.0 Crashing

Hello!

Ever since coming back to crusader kings version 3.3.0 the game crashes both within the launcher (after approx 30 seconds, sometimes straight away), and if i click through fast enough, once the game has completed loading into the main menu, i can see the game has loaded fine in the background i get a brief glimpse of the world map.

No error message is given, just a loading symbol followed by an immediate return to desktop.

I have tried -
Multiple reinstalls and verifying the game files.
Ransomware protection dosent appear to be enabled on my system.
All paradox files are deleted before install - both in documents folder and steam folder.
Graphics drivers are up to date.

Reinstalling all the redistributables, i have the following:
2008
2010
2012
2013
2015-2019.

The system is -

Dell XPS 9570 - windows home edition 64 bit version 10.0.18362 Build 18362.

Intel i7.
16gb ram
Geforce 1050ti max Q.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Edit that settinmgs.txt :

refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

And as the crashes are in DirectX9, run this MS installer:

(run dxsetup.exe after extracting from this download)

Installed the MS installer file, changed the settings in the file as stated.

Same Issue, crash after clicking any buttons.
I did notice brittany is purple on the main menu, not sure if thats an error or not.
The game will run until the mouse is clicked , anywhere on the screen not just on menu buttons (which light up when hovered over).

Attempted to verify game files, it wanted to correrct one file - same issue
Fresh reinstall - same issue.
Forced the game to always use the high performance nvidia card - same issue.

Tried the old betas, 3.0.1.1 appeared to work fine - no crash.
Any 3.2 version crashed with the same error.

Ok, time to do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

Done everything you suggested and exact same issue im affraid.

I suppose ill have to revert to a previous version of the game that works , is this a common/known issue will there be improvement in future patches?

It is not a known issue, no, I've not seen other reports of that exact symptom (only crashing when clicking on something).

Try using the nVidia Control Panel, Manage 3D settings, to force ck2game.exe onto the "integrated Intel" video option. It will be slower but does it have that same problem?

Shame, im affraid the same issue occurs both when using the intergrated graphics and the Nvidia card.

- Unless theres anything else the only other thing i could try is reinstaling windows but thats not really possible at the moment.

Having this exact same problem with the 3.3.0 run already uninstalled and reinstalled and I don't have a ck2 folder in my documents. I've also been running research online and I'm seeing this is becoming an increasing problem.

Disabling MSI Afterburner resolved this issue for me!
