Hmm this brings me to a different question. The game starts in 1066 when there is 30 years left before the crusades. There is even five years left to the bizarre battle at Manzikert which pretty much led to the crusades as initially they were launched because the basileus asked for help from the west. With a bit of skill there wouldn´t be so hard to alter history. Are we gonna see scenarios starting sometime in the 1090 something for those who want to play the crusades or could they perhaps be triggered by some other event??

Alter history? Well, that´s the general idea with these games anyway. :D

What about Easter Crusades that took place in 1300 century in Prussia, Lithuania and Latvia? Teutonic order was funding crusades into Orthodox or Pagan territories which was supported by Pope.... How will be that shown?

Even before Manzikert the Holy Land was under the thumb of the infidels. It's not too much of a stretch to assume the Crusade would have happened anyway. Although Constantinople would not have been as cooperative.

yes but there was no problem to go to jerusalem under the empire, after the problem created put on the front the 1st crusade

and if not catholic the orthodox are still christian so it is a different form of action against them, no crusade

Well, I guess there will be something in Europe to keep us occupied while we're waiting for the 1st Crusade. A little trip to sunny Spain comes to mind. Or perhaps some action in one of the Norman kingdoms...

Also the crusade against the Cathars was going on and the Moors in Spain......I'd love a game in this time period :D

Well right you are however Jerusalem had been in muslim hands ever since kalif Omar conquered the city in yhe 7th century without this creating much stir in the christian world. The difference was that the seldjuks wasn´t as keen on letting the pilgrims through and if they are defeated they shouldn´t be able to stir up thatmuch trouble.

An event like -2500 population, -50 gold, religion changed to catholic for each of the affected provinces? Well, that and something for Tannenberg...

It's really interesting how some of the Crusades were sent off against other Christian nations. And it's really interesting how Russians, bleeding badly from Mongols in 1238-1242 still managed to sack the Teuton elite in 1242 (Chudskoe lake, anyone? ^_^)

I always was under impression that Russian won do to Lake ice collapse under heavy German knights. Btw I don't think that Moscow was very effected by Tatars. It played them off for most of the time so they did not burn it. It did suffer but Russia always had large population..

Damn straight ;) And if they do don't worry I'll help you get rid of them as a good Orthodox friend :D

I would think that the bulgars would be cheering them on rather than to work against them. By 1066 the memory of the bukgar empire must have been rather fresh.
