well, "Lithuanian heathens" were never actually converted by force.
So crusades against "Lithuanian heathens" should be prestigious, but quite expensive affairs, quite often defeated....
And those crusades should also provoke retaliation raids...

I think having your home burnt down always has a huge effect :)
And due to the constant danger of fires, mongol caused or othervise, developed a sense of mutual resposibility... something that became serfdom in time :(
