CTD Problem, Please help

I have read your stickys and tried the "Universal Fix", updating everything I could and reinstalling with latest patch and am still having problems. Specfically, the game CTD everytime I tried loading or starting a game. The program initializes and I can pick secnarios and countries (or pick a saved game). However, as soon as I hit "start" it CTD. Please help. The game used to work fine with 1.04 patch a few months ago when I first got it (I hadn't played for awhile) and its just recently started having CTD problems. Tried reinstall (uninstall and then install) first and 1.06 patch. Then reinstalled again with 1.04 patch, but same problem. Then reinstalled again with 1.06 patch and updated Directx from 8.1 to 9.0a and that made no difference. I have downloaded the 1.06 patch twice to make sure a good download.

Running EU2 NA (strat first) ver 1.06
WinXP Prof SP1 (with all latest patches)
Dell Inspirion Notebook with P3 1.2Ghz, 512MB Ram
Free Disc space over 6GB
Video ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 64MB driver ati2dvag.dll version 6.13.0010.6006
DirectX 9.0a

10:1 says that renaming your \EU2\avi folder to \EU2\avi_old will fix the problem since I've definitely had many people who find that the binkplayer doesn't unload correctly after playing the start-up splash screens. Give that a try and let me know.
