My game is acting strange when I play a new or old game. The mouse and keyboard work normally at the start menu and even when selecting characters at a new game/loaded game screen.

The issue is that my mouse interactions and keyboard interactions are delayed significantly when the game is paused. Once I start up, I have to click a lot (sometimes way too many times) in order to select anything.
I am not using a computer with recommended settings, and I am used to some lag; however, the strange thing is that the game plays just fine when it is not paused. I can click and use the keyboard fine when I speed up the game, and speed 4 works great - I am able to click and type normal at this speed.

The issue is when I pause or an event pops up. This recreates the delayed inputs, and I'm dreading when I accidentally pause or when an event pops up.
What could the possible problems be?
I've cleared the game cache to no avail, and my computer/other games work normally (including EUIV), so it appears to just be an issue with CK2.

Any suggestions before I uninstall/reinstall CK2?

So my mouse inputs have been overwhelmingly delayed and sluggish. I considered it might have been a mod so I tried running ck2 with no mods and the situation still occurred. The strange thing is that the mouse delay only happens after I enter into the game itself. The menu works just fine and even the create a character section. Only when I enter the game does my input become slow.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times, I'm not sure why this occurring but its only with CK2, EU4 and Hearts of Iron work perfectly. Not sure what to do.

Works perfectly unless something pops up or I pause, I have to double click constantly to get rid of pop up messages etc

I'm having the exact same problem too. It only began occurring after the latest patch, so I wonder if that has something to do with it. I'm running no mods and my computer, although not perfect by any means, hasn't had an issue like this with CKII before.

Same, I suspect that its the new update that causing this because other people are reporting about this issue.

I went back to previous versions of the game (I went to 2.8.1, 2.7.2, and 2.7.1) and had the same issue, menus work fine - the mouse and keyboard inputs are terribly slow when the game is started up.

I figured I would try to describe what I notice in more detail. I think it's almost an issue with how mouse and keyboard inputs are registered when the game is paused. I have this habit of pausing the game to combine army stacks, and I noticed that I couldn't click and drag when the game was paused. At the same time, I noticed sometimes when the game is paused and I click a province, or character, or event option, and the click doesn't work, I then see the square for the click-and-drag option show up, even though I'm not clicking any more.

Merged threads.

During hermetic events (other people accept or no my paper) there is about 1 second delay before I can click the button

On the side note, why we are even informed of that... it's not like we can react

This may or may not be related since it involves mouse clicks not working properly, but I'm having an issue with trying to move people around in the family tree area. I'm not sure if it's a mouse issue (or hardware issue, for that matter) on my part or there's something wrong with the game itself, but I'll try to right-click, hold, and drag to move to a different part of the family tree, and sometimes there will be movement, other times there won't be anything. The weird thing is that even after I get some movement and release the button, I'll still be able to move the tree around temporarily by moving the mouse.

Is there any known fix yet? Game is practically unplayable. There's also severe delay with mousewheel inputs, for either scrolling or zooming
I've had two cases elsewhere fixed by a full clean reinstall:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

Sorry it took me a while to do this. Tried the full clean reinstall, didn't work unfortunately.

I don't know then, as I say that worked for two cases with the identical symptoms.

You didn't get that recently large Windows update at the same time, by any chance? If so it may be that doing this, rather than the game; if you go back to an older version does it still happen?

I'm having the same problem. It started a few weeks ago out of nowhere. The game has become unplayable.

see post# 14

Else see post#16
Also if you updated your graphcis drivers could be of interest

Sorry, do you me a if I go back to an older version of the game or an older version of Windows?

Same problem here.
Works fine while unpaused. Very hard to click on stuff while paused. Barely able to arrange marriages.
