Was the third crusade the last one that actually made it to the near east and fought battles? I know that the Fourth Crusade was diverted.

Learned that it was Louis IX that was the last crusader who got there and fought. Baybars wipe out all Christian communities in the Levant?

Yep, those Mamalukes were tough when they first came on the scene as the rulers of Egypt in 1250. As you can tell by the time of EU II they slid down hill quite a bit from Babars time.:)
 
THe Mamlukes killed whole Christian communities because they had allied with the Mongols. IIRC The Mamlukes defeated the Mongols at some battle. I thought anyone defeating the Mongols happened very rarely.
