Strange that I get a heir automatically instead of getting the end game screen. Just wondering where he is from. I must be really blessed by the God.

If you have no heirs listed and your ruler dies then the game will create a new character for you to continue playing. This is called a 'country cousin', he has the same dynastiename as your previous ruler but no other relationship. He usually has poor stats and starts with negative prestige.

When did this change? I remember if my character died without a heir means game over:confused: This just made the "No Heir" icon useless because you actually will get a heir for free, no matter the poor stats he has but you get a free heir!

I can't remember if they changed it already in a patch for CK or in DV. Well it is useful to know that you have no heir, unless you have Salic inheritance law. You do NOT get a free one under Semi-Salic unless there is no one at all to inherit, which will probably not happen. Under Elective Law, you do not get country cousins (well maybe if you have no vassals at all to inherit). Strongest vassals grabs all your titles :)

This has always been the case in CK, 'no heir' meant 'country cousin'.

An heir from a different dynastie means game over.

Just one question, because I faced this a long time ago.

- I am a ruler of an elective kingdom
- my son is only second in line to inherit (=get elected)

When my ruler dies, is it game over, or do I continue as his son (who has land, just he wasn't heir to his father)

You then will continue playing as your son

Under elective law, as long as you have a dynastiemember in the line of inheritance (= which means he must be in the top 7) and that dynastiemember holds a title you can continue playing as that relative

As long as your son has land, you will continue with his holdings, while his father's titles go to some other vassal. If your heir does not hold land, then it is game over.

Hello CK Forums,

I love how you term the guy, "Free Heir" :D

Anyway, talking about inheritance, is their anyway wherein when you die your son DOES NOT get your title/s and instead the title/s goes to some vassal not of your dynasty?

All titles you hold will pass to the first heir, so this is the case if your first heir is not of your bloodline. Titles you have granted to others during your reign will not be passed on to your heir on your death, since you don't hold those titles anymore, but gave them away.

With Elective Law, the most powerful vassal gets all your titles. So if your son is only the second or third strongest vassal, then he gets nothing. You still get to play on as him as long as he holds land, even though another non-dynasty vassal takes over your realm.

I guess the quest to retake it back begins? I presume the son will have claims on all those titles..:)

IIRC, anyone listed in the line of succession at the death of the title holder gets a claim on the title.
