DLL error

I have installed EU, reinstalled it, and downloaded 1.05. Everytime I try to access the game, from any direction, I get an Error Starting Program warning message, stating "A required .DLL file, WS2_32.DLL, was not found."

Here are all stats that I know off hand:

Model: Packard Bell Legend Supreme 1970
64 Mb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 video card
ASOUND EXPRESS PCI sound card

Anybody? I would be very grateful.

Do a search of your whole hard disk for instances of WS2_32.DLL ; I suspect you have different versions in different places.

Also, assuming you mean Eu2 not EU, you are very low on Ram. 128mb is the practical minimum, and I recommend 384mb or more.

I tried that before I posted, there is no WS2_32.DLL on my hard disc.

As for the low RAM, I have Civ III, which also prefers high RAM, so I know what to expect (ie. slow play and messed up audio). My family's comp is an 8-year old ex-workstation: no speed of any sort, but a huge 8 Gig HD.

What the heck is a .DLL, anyway?

OK, then _that_ is your problem! At least on win2k that is a required system file, so I'm sure it's the case with w98 also. Hopefully you can find it on your win98 CD, or download the current Service Pack for win98 from MS and it will come down with it.

DLL is Dynamic Link Library - essentially a .exe which is called in by another .dll or .exe, rather than one you run yourself.

It has occured to me that ws2_32.dll is that Winsock 2 update included on the CD. It isn't included on my CD.

you can probably get the update on Micosoft's Sites. Search a little in the download section and there should be a few patches there
