Pretty much I am play the So (start with one province, yay challenge!) but the Ouchi have been attacking the south of Japan for a while now and have taken half of Kyushu. They also have several pieces of land in central Japan.

So, I managed to get a civil war with the Shino and, while that was happening, I managed to get 5 provinces. But now, I am stuck, the Ouchi are blocking me in, they stopped expanding (I am in good terms with them and so is Shimazu) but I don't trust them and want to take them out.

So, here is my strategy, I have a good relationship with the Sugi dynasty, which resides mainly in Ouchi (they hold 2 Daymios and several provinces, luckly, one of these Daymois and some provinces ARE in Kyushu!). To make the bond stronger, all of my leaders have at least one Sugi wife. I want to make the Sugi try to start a civil war inside the Ouchi or try to seperate all together from the Ouchi so I can then invade the rest of the Kyushu island (either a broken Ouchi or a newly stated Sugi state).

So the question is, do the Sugi have a leader? I can't seen to find anything like that anywhere. I know that I would have to convince several Sugi people themselves, but a leader might help sway them to my cause.

I have decreased the Ouchi clan's leader's honor to about 30 (Ninjas!!!!) but the Sugi still won't join me in my plot. I need a guy, a leader, that I can convince!

PS: I FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME!!! I've played Paradox games before (Rome, Universalis) but they never seem to catch me; but this....this is awesome!!!

And I hear CK (never played it) is better and CK 2 is coming!!!!

I'm guessing that the Sugi will not have an appointed clan leader until you get them to splinter off and create their own clan. So you'll probably have to wait until that happens until dealing with them like a regular clan. On a positive note, your improved relations with the two current title holders of their clan will probably get you a head start since one of them will be elected most likely.

As for CK, yes this game has some similarities to Crusader Kings. Everyone's pretty stoked about the upcoming CK2, but I can still recommend that you pick up CK Gold (CK + Deus Vult expansion) soon as it's fairly cheap, still runs just fine on modern PCs (including running on wide screen resolutions after a simple text edit), and will give you a glimpse of just how detailed the dynastic character gameplay can get. So if you want a second game similar to this one, CK is still a viable option these days. ;)

Hmm.. While Sengoku is a fun game to play in its own right I'm not sure If I would say this like "CK" or the CK 1.5 until CK II comes out.. For one, Sengoku focus is way more on conquest then character development.. Yes, development is there, but nothing to the degree that CK had, or even CK II will have for that matter as the lack of Character Driven Events, and the fact the randomness of your Clan Leaders dying at a young age, really hamper the character driven immersion factor you could have in my opinion.

Is it a fun game to hold you over till CK II? Of course it is (And to its credit, while I dislike some things, E.G. No sound in the Battles, Character stuff as mentioned early, etc.. It is perhaps their smoothest game ever for a Paradox Launch in terms of very minimal bugs).. And indeed you can play CK now (along with the good ole Improvement Project Mod), and you'll have a grand experience into the whee hours of the night with that still with that game.

So just do what I do now and still play both ;) which will defiantly hold you over till CK II hopefully..

But how will I make the Sugi make their own clan? If they have no leader, then I have no way of swaying them to do so. If it happens, it will be random :(.

I guess the best I can do now is try to get the Ouchi leader's honor to the ground, along with his heir, and hope for a pretender to rise up and make a civil war.

As for CK, I guess I'll take since you guys are giving it so much cred. Thanks!

Yes, send ninjas to lower the Ouchi leader's honor. Hopefully you can get them regularly enough to get it below 25, which will give him a relations penalty with his vassals.

You may also want to try sending your Master of the Guard on missions to hurt relations with one of those Sugi vassals. I've found that it can take a long time before you get a successful result but, if mixed with a low honor liege, it will only help to inspire them into rebellion.

Getting such rebellions to happen is pretty tough, but it'll be a commendable achievement when you do. You just gotta keep chipping away at your goal.

While the interface isn't as flashy as the new stuff, you'll still enjoy the dynastic gameplay if you like this one. No-brainer! :) There are also some nice mods for it so be sure to check the forum for CK and feel free to ask questions there as it's still a bit active.

IT JUST HAPPENED!!!

BOTH Sugi AND Naito Dynasties rebelled against the Ouchi! Now Ouchi is divided into 3, not 2, 3 clans!!! Kyushu should be an easy prey to me now.

But hey.. at least it has a "Back" button!! ;).. haha..

LOL! No kidding. So helpful in navigating family trees.

Nvm, the Ouchi clan is destroying me and the Naito. And the damn Sugi! They betrayed me! They allied themselves with the Ouchi!

Sounds like a very interesting turn of events, even though your plan didn't turn out as you wanted. :)

Yeah...but this will hold me back years!!! Managed to make peace quickly with the Ouchi (I think they are overwhelmed right now). So instead I will take over the new Naito land next to mine. I will leave the Sugi alone for now (managed to be at peace with them too). Will try to make them hate each other and then fight the Sugi while the Shimazu and I plot against the Ouchi.

Took Naito land, Naito angry, Naito built huge army far north. Naito come south, 20K+, I surrender to them and am subjugated. Shumazu eradicated by some other new clan.

In retrospect, I should have just played nice with Oichu. Karma is a bitch.
