New liege won't make peace after successfully taking duchy title by conquest

Playing as the Count of Gent (younger son of the Duke of Flanders, and vassal to the Duke of Upper Lorraine and King of Germany, while Dad is vassal to King of France), when the Duke dies I get a claim on the Ducal throne. Being cautious, I wait until the French King is tied up in a war with the Duchy of Brittany before trying to make good on my claim. Eventually, with some help from my liege lords, I persuade big brother to see the error in Father's will and become Duke of Flanders. I am now vassal to the King of France, but still at war with him. I had to take all his demesne provinces (well, all that weren't being controlled by someone else - he was at war with the Dukes of Bourgogne and Toulouse towards the end as well) before he would accept me as Duke of Flanders. After capturing each demesne province I would propose a peace that would keep me as Duke (not force him to acknowledge me as rightful Duke) and have no money change hands, but he would always reject it until I captured the last demesne province, when I had enough warscore to demand acknowledging me as rightful Duke, and he accepted it.

So what exactly is the problem in all this, sounds pretty WAD to me accept for being at war with your liege.

Being at war with my liege (and becoming more loyal to him while at war with him, I might say) is the strange thing. Well, that and him not accepting a white peace when I had 90 war score (and him involved in two other wars at the same time).

Well a white peace would be if the listed peace value is zero (do not press claim). What does the peace value list when you offer to install yourself as Duke?

EDIT: on second look you are right keeping him is listed as 0, hmmm.

No, I already have the title (after strong-arming big brother). The choices are Retain me as Duke of Flanders (0 warscore, which he refuses), Force King of France to recognize my claim (c. 125 warscore) and Surrender Title to King of France. A true return to status quo ante (i.e., return Ducal title to big brother) is no longer an option.

One shouldn't be able to be at war with liege, that's a known bug. I'd presume it messes up the warscore calculations as well.

I think this is the same bug as 392, except than in this one, you're the vassal and the AI is your liege...

I'll mark this one as DUPLICATE, come back to me if you think they are different.

I think there's elements in 392 beyond just the vassal/liege at war element that makes that one unique. This one was catholic-on-catholic, the other was orthodox-on-muslim with other oddities (loss of a title without a peace settlement, vassalization when the title was lost, independence when primary title revoked.)

Well, as Grosshaus said, being at war while still being vassal/liege shouldn't be possible and is a known bug (although it may not be on the list).

Some of these aspects have been changed in 1.03 anyway.

I'd rather let this bug as is it now, and wait to see if the problem would be reproducible in 1.03 or not.

Ok ? :)
