Hey y'all,
When DV makes the pause at the end of each month, it's to prune dead chars, yes? Cause i don't see much pruning as the game goes by, my savegame is getting bigger and bigger and i would like a way to wipe off all those zombie people still in it... Anybody knows a way to prune DV saves?

On a possibly related note, what's with the character type=10 or type=4712? I noticed that everybody that is already in the game when you start has type=10 and everyone created after that has type=4712. Any game difference?
Also dynasties have type=12 but i think i saw once some other code attributed to them, anybody knows what it is?

The game also removes all relationship, rivalries and friendships of dead characters at the end of the month.

Your save-game will still become bigger since not all dead characters are removed, only those who serf no purpose (no titles and no claims f.e.).

Well you already noticed what the difference is, no idea what other influences this has.

Characters with type=4712 will gain skills as they age (if they're children), characters with type=10 do not.

You don't notice the character pruner since it only removes dead characters who have no living descendants. E.g. if all the de Hautevilles are dead, their entire family tree will be wiped out as long as no character has a link to them in the tree.

Thanks for the info,

Does it check by dynasty (no more members of it) or by actual descendents?

Actual descendants. As long as there is any alive character whose family tree has a link to a character, he will remain in the savegame. This includes marriages.
Thus even if you kill the count of Vermandois and his entire family is destroyed, Charlemagne will not disappear from the savegame because there are many families who have ties with him through marriage. Only if no living character has any link to someone, are they removed -- and therefore pruning usually only removes spawned courtiers (who have no family), or entire dead families at once.
