Edict of Tolerance

When the Edict of Tolerance is issued all bets are apparently back on for RMs. Does this apply to vassalage and dip-annexing as well?

In other words, will I be able to dip-annex the Dutch if I wait long enough?

I think the criteria for dip annexing is that the religion has to be EXACTLY the same.

I found that you can diplo-annex different religions after the Edict of Tolerance. As Catholic France, I diplo-annexed Protestant Wurtumberg.

It's harder though because generally by the Edict of Tolerance the Protestant countries all hate you... but if you pump enough money into it, it should work.

It might just be protestant/catholicism. I never tried a reformed country or an orthodox country, or a muslim country. But I did diplo-annex a protestant country.

Protestant, Reformed, and Catholic countries can all diplo-annex each other after the Edict of Toleration.

I wouldn't hold your breath on annexing the dutch. In my current game I've failed (as England) on trying to vassalize them something like 25 times. Unless they get a stability hit, they just don't seem to like to be vassalized.

Lowered stability makes it much more likely for a country to accept vassalization and annexation. As do other factors affecting their power.
