I have a UK copy of EU with the Koch Logo.

I have installed the game and after some irritating crashes and no ability to save the tutorial I turned to the web site for a patch.

I installed the V1.08 UK patch and read through the list of fixes and :) everything I wanted to see!

I ran the game and I got an EU CD NOT FOUND.

OK I thought so the patch has over written the registry entry... no it had not. being a programmer I went on a hunt and found the error resides in the updated europa.exe (2040kb 16/03/2001 13:41) file.

Reading through other issues here I found that others using the wrong patch had this problem. I can assure you that this is not me! The unpatched Game runs OK.

System: PIII 500 128mb ram OEM DVD/CD-ROM Matshita DVD-ROM SR-8584a, VooDoo 3 3000 AGP

Thank you if you can give me a quick response!

P.S From what I have seen so far... A Great Game!!!

Same for me.
Last night I installed the 1.08 Benelux patch, but the EU CD was not found.
I reinstalled my 1.07 EU game and have a lot lot lot of fun (and now I have to work - ojee).
For now I go through the threads to find the answer, meanwhile I play 1.07.

In my case I have only 1 CD-player. But there was occasionaly (to install the patch) connected an external ZIP-drive. I will look if this caused the problem - when I'm back home.

Enjoy the game, I do.

Me too... I have a Koch cd with EU 1.07 and get the 'EU cd not found' message. I have a CD and a CD-RW in my machine, but the PC didn't try to read the CD-RW.

Shame really. I've uninstalled and reinstalled EU and the patch twice, just in case, but no luck.

One for 1.09, possibly?

Last night I couldn't play EU, and chek what caused the 'EU CD not found' problem, because my girlfriend wanted to play Baldur's Gate (also very great).
But she figured out that our CD-RW was configured as E: drive after the installation of the external ZIP-drive (which became D:). So this seems the reason why EU couldn't find the EU CD because it was probably programmed to look in the D:
I'm sure that this night I will be playing EU.

See you on the field

I also have a UK version from Koch. I only have one CD drive. The game plays fine as 1.07 out of the box with no crashes in a couple of weeks play (well one actually when I tried to burn a trading post and then accept a peace deal - that's what you get from the AI for gamesmanship I guess!). So it's clearly stable. Was looking forward to the gameplay issues addressed by the patch 1.08 but I have the same problem that after the patch is installed I get the CD not found message.

Is it possible that some games sold in the UK are not the UK version after all but perhaps the US one? Anyone tried the US patch? Has anyone in the UK got the 1.08 patch working OK?

So for the time being it is back to 1.07. Good game but with those gameplay amendments it could be better!

I had the same problems with the UK and BEN patch.
So i tried the german patch and that one works fine.
Only thing you have to do is to keep the original text.csv(or .cvz) and replace the german one with the original otherwise everything will be in german. It works fine by me so its worth trying.

The same problem here

Believe it or not I have lost the whole weekend trying to solve this "EU CD not found" problem to no avail.

I have donloaded 4 different patches, I have reinstalled the game over 5 times and I still can find why it doesnt work.

I read the suggestion about changing my CDrom drive letter, but I doubt it will work (and its not a nice solution anyway).

I expect Paradox to fix the problem soon.

Thanks

(great game)

Kav,

One suggestion left:

Your problem sounds just like mine. On my pc the game wouldnt work also(patches and changing cd driveletter made no difference). On my dads pc the game worked fine, so i replaced my 50x cd-rom player with an 8x and the game worked.... i went back to the store i bought the cd player and traded it for another one and with this one the game does work. So try replacing the cd player.

Somewhat of a fix

I had the exact same problems and used someone's advice of installing the german patch version and it worked. You have to uninstall, reinstall fresh, and then run the German 1.08 patch. It worked for me when none of the other patches would work. Would someone mind posting the files I need to replace to get the game back in English? Thanks.

Trey

Didn't work!

Well, I tried the same thing (German patch 1.08) -- no success. Didn't even get as far as the UK patch did.

I can't try the other trick of changing my CD drive letter to D:, 'cos I have 2 hard drives.

I also have 2 CD drives (one is a CD-RW): could that maybe be the problem? Have the others who've found no solution to this also got two CD's, I wonder?

Fix - change drive letter

I had the same problem after upgrading to 1.08 (UK). It doesn't seem to matter if you have one or several HDDs or CDs/DVDs/ZIP's etc, what does matter is if the CD player is the *first* drive letter following the hard drives (ie no unassigned drive letters and no removable drives before the CD).

In my case (HDD partitions C to F) the fix was to change the drive letter from Z to G. This doesn't impact you much, it's easy to change the drive letter again if it breaks some other app, but it would be nice if a future patch (I suppose it's too late for 1.09) fixed this :)

Best regards
