I live in Canda, Purchased EU 1.07 off the shelf.
Instals and plays but crashes to the desktop.
Computer: Pentium 3 950 Dual, 1Gb RAM, SB16, GeForceMX, 2 HD's, 1 Removable, 1 cd, 1 CD-R all SCSI, Win 2000 Pro.
Download Patch EU 1.09 NA would not install, EU not installed.
Downloaded the rest of the patches.
Patch EU 1.09 BEN did install.
Patched game can't find CD-ROM

Version Splash states EU 1.07 no subverion.

How do I figure out what country release I have?
Seems I don't like it when my code is hacked I don't want to hack the game.
No Cludges or workarounds please, this is also development workstation.
Support please notify me that you have recieved this bug report.
I'll hang onto the game for a week, to allow support to confirm resolution of further action.

NA version is published by Strategy First
UK Version has Koch Media on the box
Benelux (English) has Blackstar on the box

Dont think that the patch is the problem as it wouldnt work without one.
The problem could be the 2 HDDs. Install it on the one with the lowest Driver letter - you might have more luck. Make sure that you install it from the CD Drive with the lowest Drive letter - that might help too.

You need NA patches for NA versions...DL could be problematic

Ok, well I am no tech guru, but it seems the Benelux patch was intended for the Benelux release. If you purchased your game NEW and off the shelf in Canada you DEFINITELY have the Strategy First (or NA) release. Ergo you need the NA patch. If it did not install when you downloaded it, personally I would say you are fortunate since many have found it to be problematic, however if you are intent on having 1.09 instead of the 1.08, I suggest you consider wacking your current install, reinstall a virgin 107c (out of the box version), and then DL the 109 patch and reinstall.

DLs of patches and other add ons can often be error prone if the connection was less than optimal or for a number of other reasons. I would blame the NA patch DL before anything else, and I would try re DLing the Patch meant for your release before anything else since in fact these different releases have a number of things that are not common to both. If instead you want to install the 1.08 NA patch, you can e mail me and I will happily provide a NA copy of 1.08 (since I think the older patch is no longer available on this site - please someone correct me if I am wrong!).

I wish you good luck, and hopefully some other folks will give you replies if this does not work for you.

PLAY ON!

Not necessarily true. I bought my copy in the Netherlands (the NE in BENELUX), so you would think it is the benelux version.

Not so. I have a UK version.

I guess it all depends on where your local store gets it's supply from.

PS.

Does anyone know *WHY* there are so many different, for patch purposes incompatible versions out there?

I just DL the 109NA patch for the 2nd time from the Strategy First web site. It still fails to install properly. Is anyone looking into this? What is the solution?

Have you tried downloading it from the official EU site instead?
What error do you get?

I have the same problem as WarSim:

EU splash screen says 1.07 (not b or c)
1.09 NA won't install
1.09 UK installs, but game cannot find CD afterwards
I haven't tried the BEN patch (currently not supported-why?)

I use a Compaq Presario 1200 laptop @475 mHz w/64 megs RAM (4 of which are being used as video mem) and plenty of HD space. HD is partitioned into C: and D: drives, EU installed on C:

WarSim: For what it's worth your'e not alone.

Paradox: This is not an isolated problem.

Thanks for listening, Paradox,

1.09 patch

Hi there,

Well, I see I was not the only one. I just wrote an email to the strategy first support to find out what the hell is going on and I hope to get a reply sooner. If the reply is ok I post it here.

The story: I bought a NA edition of the game (1.07c) and tried to install all patches out there:
NA: goes up, but as soon as you start the game you get a splash screen saying 'SAFEDISK' and then everything hangs. Have to kill processes via the task manager.
UK: goes up but as soon as you start the game you get a window error message saying 'no eu cd found' or something like this. Of course, as I have an NA version... but when you are desperate you try everything.

Well it's funny to spend 65 euro to buy a game just to see the update patches spitting in your face that you are a cheater (I think the safedisk message means that). Would that be a good casus belli? ;-)

Ciao,

Finding Right Patch

I had a problem figuring out which patch as well. Being in Canada and having bought the game off the shelf I assumed I had the North American Version. Silly me, I should no better than to make logiacal assumptions like that when it comes to marketing. :)

Turns out I have the UK Version, even though the NA distributor is a Canadian Company. I found this out by trying to install the NA patch and getting the 'can not find EU' message. I then tried the UK patch (at least I knew I had an English version) and it worked perfectly. :)
