First thing to do on XP is rename the AVI dir to anything else, say AVI_OLD .

If that doesn't help, run the eu2_settings.exe and turn the music off. If that helps the problem is your sound driver.

If not, it's probably the video driver. Check with your vendor for updates.

*I've renamed the AVI dir to AVI_OLD .

*I've turned the music off.

*I've updated the video driver.

*I've tried to start with an earlier save.

IT STILL CRASHES!

It's a shame really as this is the best game I've ever played (and of course the fact that in this particular game I'm in control of 5 or 6 gold-producing colonies in 1658 playing as Sweden :) )

I'm playing with the 1.07 patch (win XP home, 2,4 ghz, 512 MB ram, ATI Radeon 9700 128 mb). Of course it's the real game, no illegal download!

Any ideas..?

Is it game specific (e.g. tied to your Sweden game), or does it happen in all scenarios?

It it is game specific and happens around the same date each time, one possible way to get around it is to play as another nation for a few months or years near the point where it crashes, and then return to your nation again.

You told you play 1.07 but you didn't mention if you use a beta... A tip for you: download the last beta. Johan has fixed several CTD's on the betas, so it might be a solution for yours!:D

It might be game-specific as I played other games before with less crashes. :(

My 1.07 version is the official one (EU2_1.07_Nordic_Update_030327.exe Europa Universalis II Patch (1.07) Only works with Vision Park - Scandinavian edition
030327 5 Mb),
Is there another version? In that case, where can I find it?

I'm sorry if I post this in the wrong thread, I realize now that it maybe shoul'd hav been put in the support-thread.

Anyway, I gave up and re-installed the game with the 1.07 patch. Now I get a crash after 2 or 3 years already. I haven't tried to restart it, I'm kind of giving up.

It seems that somethings wrong with my computer-settings or something like that, I just can't understand what the problem is.

Any suggestions?

Btw, I still wonder if there's patches (or betas ?) made after 1.07, and if that case, where to get them?

Also rename your AVI folder to AVI_back

Not good news for me ... I'm running the latest version, latest patch of EU2 and my computer has had a major upgrade since the bad old days when I started playing EU1 and it crashed all the time. But now it's unstable again ..... five or ten minutes and bang - CTD.
There are a couple of wars going on, ships and armies moving around, the music is on, the game is at normal speed and resolution 1024 x 768.

The system is a Pentium 4 with GE Force 4 graphics, 256 RAM etc.
It runs Morrowind and various other games without hesitation
It was running fine with 1.05 .... :(
It was running fine with 1.07 - one CTD as far as I can remember.

What is this "AVI_back" business all about?

Correction: resolution is 800 x 600 in game, although it's 1024 x 768 back on the desktop where I seem to end up every time ....

The startup movies sometimes cause the crashes. They are not necessary for the game to run. Therefor it is adviced to disable them by renaming the avi folder to something else (e.g. avi_old) This way EU2 will not start with those movies and you will have less CtD's. You can also entirely delete them.

Owl, In general please start your own threads when asking for support. It makes it easier for me if everyones problems are in individual threads. Sometime what looks like the same thing can be caused by two totally different things.

As always my first advice to you is to rename the AVI folder to AVI_back.
