I was musing over how I know when all the monarchs and how good or bad they are during my latest England game (got get that diplomacy done before the Stuarts come in!).

How about to give some unpredictability, a scenario where all of the monarchs (majors and minors) are randomized (history in a blender :) )? You really wouldn't know what is coming next.

One could get sophisticated and make sure a nice distribution of good and bad monarchs is made, and to fix up all the names.

State,

This is a sad indication that you play England too much. Try someone else sometime. :p

But, Dudley, Prince Rupert, Marlborough, Drake, Elizabeth I...

I can't give them up. I need help.

I wasn't suggesting that "I" create such a scenario, but someone else so I can get some variety with England. :D

Worse yet, after reading your guerilla tactics post, my immediate thought is how to use that in England. :(

ok State,

Because of this thread I decided to play England once. Well It is 1580s and they are on a path of being the colonial power in the world.

The 2 conversions in religion were not bad at all, even using a severe tax_stab (+3=+20%...-3=-100%). Each conversion happened very shortly after it was possible to convert and took 15-20years to recover back to +3stab. There were only minor revolts. And France DoWed me both times just after the conversions. ENG started with a free scotland and Eire, and both were mil-annexed by 1502. ENG has good leaders, a great economy and all of france to play with. Granted, this is my only game with them, but after playing teny-tiny minors they seem like an 800-pound guerillia.

Just curious why are you an ENG addict.

PS playing with IGC+ economy settings.

I'm an Austria addict. They're also hardly the toughest country to play iwth but I just like it :D And I guess State feels the same about England. U can make the game harder though t o roleplay nicely, set ur own goals and rules.

Yes, it is definitely easy to play. Even restraining myself (via role playing) it is easy. At least easy in the sense that you would be hard pressed to not be a superpower eventually. Roleplaying does add a nice dimension, and in many respects takes the tough first 50 years (or thereabouts) of a campaign, and maybe adds another 50 years of interesting play.

Playing minors hasn't really interested me - I find myself ending up choosing between building myself into a great power, or idly sitting through the game.

I think roleplaying an Austria as defender of the faith is something I should try. Or an Ethiopia or something (as you have, I believe).

I surprise myself everytime I start a new game. After all, the game system has no real secrets (despite finding new stuff all the time). The military AI is horrible. The crazy alliances are... crazy (e.g. Cologne and Moldovia). The lack of depth in the alliance system, etc. All those things we can look forward to in EU2 or 3 or something.

So, I'm an EU addict.

Actually, in my defense, I'm playing IGC+ economic mod with England right now. Since I know England so well, I get the subjective feel of the changes.

in my defense
LOL..nothing to defend. People should play what is fun to them. :) I was just curious what you saw in ENG that you liked.

Or an Ethiopia or something (as you have, I believe)
Yes, Ethiopia is ok. I am done with africian/asian countries for a while. Played the Uzbeks, mameluks, nubians, ethopians, thialand, and mughals. Not sure what country is next. Started a Ragusa game tonight but I need a break from countries in the med. sea area. Maybe just a break from playing EU as well...at least until some crazy idea gets in my head like....what if portugal turned protestant and then reformed....and they tried to do ??????? ;) I might try hungry. Someone mentioned they are hard because of being poor and having turk problems. We should all play a MP game. Bib can be austria, me hungry, you eng....just need a couple more :) What would be wild is playing a MP game without knowing who is an AI player and who is a human. Image the laughs you would get when a player gives you a letter of introduction or personal gift. :) then you DoW next month..hehe.

Actually, I might just work on making a set of scenerios (the IGC revolters). Already have a scenario with Sicily. Was thinking of doing a finland one, but doomy might just incorporate that into the IGC. So maybe some other revolters not covered by the IGC yet. Just looking for inspiring ideas right now.

oh...one thing i noticed was colonization for ENG is very cheap compared with other countries. Seems ENG gets a 40% discount on TP/colonies.

If you are playing with IGC+, I have a question. Does colonization seem alot easlier? the AI seems to be colonizing slower then I recall it doing with normal trade prices. So an aggressive human has an easier time doing it.

LOL...just had an idea...we all play a MP game and start as one province minors. ;)

well, i am tried...good night.

Hell, I'm trying to justify it to myself.:D

I love the MP idea, though I can't imagine playing it. I've never done MP, and usually run the game at highest speed with frequent pauses - not compatable with MP, I understand.

Colonization

Early colonization definitely seems slower. I'm just in the 1580's right now - in another 20 years or so it will be interesting. I had intended, but messed up, to use Real EU's changes to slow French and English colonization. I have to find what he did - I'll compare his colonists.csv to IGC+. It was very effective. Both France and England get unhistorical amounts of colonists in the 1500's. I, personally, just ignore them or use an occaisional one in Ireland (which is what I think they are actually intended for). Amusingly, in this game, P-L has had two colonies in Africa for a long time - don't know whether they took them from Portugal or put them there themselves. I do use random events so they may have gotten some help.

Hands off is necessary to answer this question, though. Need full world visibility and multiple tests.

I also have a quite weird playing style quite unsuited to MP gaming I pause a lot to do feck all whatever
Like the rest of us don't? ;)

I have a hard time imagining a MP IGC game, unless the group decided to make a long term comitment to play for say...4hrs at a specified time each week. Then it would be like a regular BG gaming group.

Errant. Sounds like BiB has thrown the gauntlet down, implying that four hours total will be sufficient for him to win. :D
