My Duke of Leinster etc. was poisoned shortly after creating his eldest son the Count of Sligo, the middle son the realm Marshal, and his youngest son had just started his martial education. I was surprised when the 5-year-old youngest son inherited (he has the highest martial rating, one point higher than his brother the marshal), but what's really odd is that the line of succession for the new Duke was to the middle brother, then to a cousin - the oldest brother doesn't appear in the succession at all. When the oldest brother (the one who is a count) had some sons, those sons appeared in the line of succession, but their father still doesn't. He (the count) is excommunicated, but I don't know if he was excommunicated before the inheritance, and don't know if excommunication is supposed to exclude someone from an inheritance or not.

excommunicated and bastards do not inherit in most cases. bastards can inherit in elective don't know about excommunicated but i think they are excluded.

This is nothing. I have in version 1.04a situation that baby of 0 years has become new king. He has 8 older brothers with 2 which are for last 10 years spy master and marshal. Nobody has been excommunicated or bastard. This is old problem for which nobody has make solution.
