I was going on a killing spree with not one but two Sicilies in my first game and had cleverly declared was on some loser country as an excuse to conquer Italy. I ended up in a three way war with the other two Italian major powers. Sardinia-Piedmont was beating up the Papal States with the help of the French (allies of S-P). I launched a lightning campaign that did very well, until I started running into French troops! I was not at war with them (and had a defense pact), but would always fight them in Sardinia whenever we met (more then a reasonable number for just expeditionary forces). Also, my ships would not engage the French by themselves, but would fight them if they were in the same zone as S-P ships.

I have experienced a similar problem. When taking on all the German minors as Prussita, troops would switch alligence after I annexed or satillited them. They would fight for the nations that remained in the war. This wouldn't have been so annoying had they at least changed their flags. As it was, I fought against troops carrying flags of my satelittes.

vietnaaaam

same here

i think though it might be know why that was

in those days they did not have walkie talkies or 2 way radios, all they had were pidgeons and horse riders to deliver the messages

so during a war the commandder of a division would not be instantly notified. hence they continue to fight.

like those vietnam vets that went to the hills

The commanders would be notified pretty soon, though. This problem lasts until all the combatants stop fighting. Also, in my case, France and Sicily were not at war in the first place!

The only signifigant battle I can think of that happened after the peace deal was in the War of 1812 (1812-1815, the people of the old days stunk at naming wars) on the southern front.

That's WAD, when you annex someone their army/navy joins their allies and continues the fight. They're not exactly happy to be annexed, you know.

There should be an option to imprision the families of those who continue fighting after you satillite them. :) I can understand fighting on after annexation, but not satilliting.
