I just read an article about him on a french gaming news website. That's awesome.

I saw these two models he posted somewhere here I think. Maybe I even answered his post about them... but I can't find it back !! Where did he post them ???????

Edit : Ok found them back. He didn't post but someone was talking about him.

The Coal Power plant : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=407004390

The Burger restaurant : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=408683814

They look excellent :eek:o (well I prefer the restaurant ebcause I'm not a big fan of industrial or polluting building... ;) )

Someone else asked about taking money for creating mods prior to the game's release. He seemed to be heavily down voted. And if I'm not wrong, TotalyMoo or someone else has also stated "that's a no go".
Am I wrong?

So if this former EA/Maxis dude can do it, why can't we? I sure wouldn't mind get at least a dollar or two per hour I spend on making mods if it was possible. .

You can charge what you like, but I would have no intention of buying them, & I expect most would feel this way. One of the great things modern games, particularly the Paradox ones have , is the modders with their mods, but if they went down this route it would start the beginning of the end. I would add I really appreciate modders & what they do, & wish I was more creative.

Interesting thought then.. People gladly support streamers on Twitch by donating or even subscribing a monthly fee of $9 or so to watch them play.
Buy a pack of 5-10-20-whatever many buildings for $1 and people goes "never!".

You make an excellent point. I think if you are good you can build up fans on the workshop and set up a donations site like that Maxis guy. With millions of people playing the game there is a definite minority that would be willing to contribute for building assets from talented modelers/artists.

I would never pay to watch someone playing a game, rather pay for a mod, but each to their own I suppose. Like I said, I am not knocking you or other modders. I think the time & creativity people put into mods is fantastic, but start going down the pay route & we lose what modding is about.

Its not necessarily paying for the mod itself though, that's not what Patreon is about. The content is available to everyone regardless, its more of a collective donation system that rewards the modder for milestones instead of all at once.

yeah
+ I guess demanding donations for mods isn't allowed by the terms of use

He doesn't demand money for the mods. The mods are open to everyone, if you want you can donate and he'll be able to make them at a higher pace.

I would pay good money for a mod that enhances the overall graphics. Can´t he do anything about that?

Seems like a cool way of doing it and allows people to support an artist making completely original content, which is different than coders who build on each other's work and should be open source.

Right... because a modeller´s work is based on no one´s others work. They all just create stuff out of nothing like magicians....

This is great so long as he actually puts a monthly cap on the amount of monies he recieves, because over a certain point he'd be earning more than he would working freelance, full time as a game artist. At that point it would become a little disingenuous to say he's supporting the community.

Also a better solution is Paradox see his already great work and throw him some monies to produce stuff for the game.

I don't care for his buildings either so far, but I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches his goal of $600/week. No idea who would want to pay $25 PER BUILDING to him (that's frikkin' $100/mo if he releases just 1 building per week!), but apparently there are 4 rich kids who are willing to do so. Still, likely the only reason he's getting this amount of money is because he's ex-Maxis. I doubt anyone else would get this kind of traction on a donation site.

The amount of upset in this thread over something so silly baffles me.

Man makes buildings, man says "hey if you wanna support me, consider donating through Patreon", and people do and donate for him to continue his work.

I'm not seeing where the hostility in this thread is coming from. Why is this bad? Who cares how much he makes doing it? He's making content and people who like his content are paying him to continue doing it. Nothing is hidden behind a paywall, its all available to the public.

If someone can mod the game and make money doing it, I'm all for it.
