Freedom and Liberation
The Fourth Congress of the Greater Sicilian Union convened on April 1, 1936. The Social-Reformists argued for a system closer to that of the Union of Britain. The Anarcho-Syndicalists wanted to maintain the current system. The National-Syndicalists wanted to impose Totalitarian Socialism on the Socialist Republic of Italy. Benito Mussolini held the most convincing arguments for making Italy stronger and got elected as General Secretary of the SRI. Soon after getting elected, however, Mussolini started a campaign to purge his political opponents. Dissent rose all over southern Italy. A new revolution occured and Mussolini was deposed. Elections were held and the Liberal Party gained power, making Enrico de Nicola the first President of the Socialist Republic of Italy. Ties were quickly severed between Italy and the Internationale.

Days after the revolution, Pope Julius IV sent a proposal to the new government to join the Italian Federation. The new Liberal government refused to be dominated by his dictatorship. Julius IV refused to yield and ordered the Italian Federation's military to attack southern Italy. The Italian Reunification War began.

You have lost. I tried the SRI, but without French support you are doomed, you simply don't have the manpower and industrial capacity to resist...
Unless they changed it in the last version, that I've not tried yet.

Isnt that a bit harsh? You do know his playing on easy or something right?

Sorry, it wasn't meant to sound rude. :eek:o I was just telling my personal experience on normal, I've never tried on easy but it may be possible at that difficulty.. :)

Van5: They are always quite interesting.

atty: I've already built some infantry and once the Federation falls, I'll have all the IC I need. ;)

Zeldar155: I tried this before. It was a challenge, but I survived.

Zhuge Liang: If you rack up more than 25 dissent, a revolution event happens followed by an election.

Italian Reunification War

Interesting an Italian Fed. AAR. Good luck!
Thanks. I'm actually playing as southern Italy, though. :)

Pope Julius IV underestimated the people of southern Italy when he attempted to invade. The southern Italian Army counterattacked and launched a massive offensive into Rome. Julius IV barely escaped the city when southern Italian forces entered the Holy See. The Republican counterattack caught the Federation's military completely off guard. The Socialist Republic of Italy used the momentum from capturing Rome to seize areas to the east and attack Rimini.

Resistance increased as Republican forces moved north. After three battles, the city of Milan finally fell to the southern Italian Army. Bitter street-to-street fighting occured, damaging large parts of the city. Reports flooded in of weapons and vehicles being sent by the Austrians to help the Italian Federation. In response to Austrian support of the Federation, Canada entered into talks with the Socialist Republic of Italy to help them with supplies and arms. The Commune of France decided to remain strictly neutral.

Forces of the Socialist Republic of Italy finally entered Genoa and defeated the remaining forces of the Italian Federation. It was reported that Pope Julius IV was killed when an artillery round struck his motorcade in Genoa. The College of Cardinals would once again convene. The government of the Italian Federation fell and the new government signed the surrender of the state. The Italian Reunification War was over and the country was unified. The new government would need to defend itself from the threats of the Internationale and Mitteleuropa.

Nice job reunifying Italy so quickly, what are your plans now? Italy won't be able to make a huge difference by itself and yu seem to be developing links with Canada so will you join the Entente?

Interesting setup, good job with re-uniting Italy! Count me in.

socialist italy not in the internationale ? that is really interesting. are the syndies friendly neutral or are they pissed off at the italians for leaving their alliance?

contacts with canada suggest, that the socialism won't last long ;)

good luck

Zhuge Liang: If Italy were to join the Entente at this point, they would actually have the most IC of any member.

Van5/Zeldar155: France hasn't done anything to deserve it back yet.

Karaiskandar/Asalto: Welcome aboard. I have much grander plans in the future. ;)

gooy: There was a revolution and the social liberals won the elections. The Commune would be kinda mad, I guess.

While rebuilding was occuring in the new united Italy, America was torn apart by civil war. Jack Reed was narrowly voted into the United States presidency. He could not get his policies through a bitterly divided Congress, so he started using extreme executive orders. While the Combined Syndicates of America praised this, the rest of the population saw this as unconstitutional. Reed ordered the military to crack down on Huey Long's Minute Men, but Douglas MacArthur refused to march. He marched on the capital and deposed Jack Reed. The Combined Syndicates of America and the American Union State both declared independence, followed by the Pacific States of America.

On March 1, 1937, King Alfonso III suffered a stroke and ended up in a coma. The government refused to call for elections and society broke down all over the country. The Carlists and the CNT-FAI decided to use this to thier advantage and take control of areas of the country. The new factions attacked the government and each other. The Spanish Civil War started. In Russia, the Tsar was brought back as the head of the government. The Russian Empire was reborn.

The Socialist Republic of Italy had been holding talks with the Entente since the Italian Reunification War. Prime Minister Mackenzie King of Canada visited Rome and met with President Enrico de Nicola. A few weeks later, the leaders of the Entente met in Tunis for a special conference. The Socialist Republic of Italy was invited into the Entente as a full member. The Entente once again had a foothold on mainland Europe. Days after the alliance was signed, the Commune of France began wargames in southern France and sent troops to the border. Many feared the clouds of war were once again gathering over Europe.
