From 1.3a to DD

I get techno-fear from a pencil sharpener...

I currently have Vanilla HoI2 with the 1.3a patch. I have tried installing DD over this but all I am getting is a crash at the end of startup.

If anyone has any ideas how to go further, please let me know, but without resort to jargon.

Doomsday is a stand-alone.

Uninstall everything.
Install DD.
Install patch.
Done.
