I got a new PC with more RAM, new graphics card, better CPU, an SSD instead of only HD and Windows 11 instead of 10 on the old PC.

I had to reinstall FtG (the Steam Version) and when I first started it I got 2 querys:
within Steam: the serial number where I clicked - do not ask again and

after FtG showed the starting screen and the music started a Windows windows popped up telling me that "an app" (FtG?) would need "DirectPlay" to work properly and if I would like to install that.

When I clicked to abort FtG ended.

Could it be that a new install of Windows 11 lacks Direct Play that is needed for FtG to work? If so that should be in the Tech Support FAQ.

Enabling DirectPlay on Windows 11

  1. Search for Windows Features in the taskbar search box and select Turn Windows features on or off.
  2. In the Windows Features window, locate Legacy Components and click the + icon to expand it.
  3. Check the box next to DirectPlay.
  4. Click OK to apply the changes.
  5. Wait for Windows to search for and apply the required files.
  6. Restart your computer to complete the installation.
If the installation fails or takes too long:
  1. Open PowerShell with elevated permissions (Run as Administrator).
  2. Enter the command: Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature –FeatureName "DirectPlay" -All -Online
  3. Wait for the process to complete and restart your computer when prompted.

Thankyou, but I do know how to install it and that Windows 11 wants it - after all it asked for it.

What I wanted to know is: Does FtG on Windows 11 require the installation of Direct Play - or can it somehow do without?

If Direct Play needs to be installed on Windows 11 for FtG to run, then that should be part of the Tech Support FAQ as it is another step to take for the user to get to play the game.
