Ok, I'm new to CK. I was wondering how you get more stability. I've been at -2 stab for decades and my kingdom is at the breaking point, do I just have to wait for a random event that may never pop up? Is there nothing I can do to make my nation more stable?

Stability is all event-driven, and overall, only affects whether good or bad events are more likely to happen to you. Events which raise your stability look as if they are influenced by good things going on in your country and hurt by bad things -- for example, being at war makes it twice as hard to get a positive stability boost. It looks like there are a ton of little things that contribute to whether or not you will get a positive stability boost.

In general, try to have the 'good Christian ruler' type traits and high prestige/piety scores, don't be at war or have things like realm duress, try not to have a ton of vassals directly under you, don't have stuff like the plague or other diseases, rebellions, looted provinces, etc.

So realm duress causes -2 stability and then prevents you from regaining it? And it seems like its unlikely to go away as long as you are at war; yet while it is affecting you, you will be at constant war with your vassals. I hate that event even more now!

... you will be at constant war with your vassals.

That right there should give you a major hint on how to make the Realm Duress trait go away faster. If you're the type of player who feels they must completely crush all rebellious vassals and immediately bring them (or their provinces) back into the fold, then yes, you're going to have a tough/long road ahead with Realm Duress.

The trick is to make those rebellion wars short and quick. As long as you have the King titles to them (and even if you still have claims on their titles), they'll eventually ask to be your vassal again. So fight a short war, win the first battles decisively, then offer a White Peace (or accept a White Peace once you've started besieging their provinces).

If you've got a gazillion direct vassals, then the game is penalizing you for this. Cut down on the number of direct vassals. Choose Vassal-friendly laws. Do away with Scutage, find the best Chancellor money (okay, marriage) can buy. Cut down on your BB reputation. Get rid of those far-distant vassals if you really have no intention of wanting to own that area. Loads of things you can do, to reduce the chances of getting Realm Duress or to help it go away.

Gaining realm duress drops your stability by 1, and a 50% chance of another 1 stability lost. The end of realm duress event gives you +1 stability and a 50% chance of another 1 stability gained. So it's also possible to gain a point of stability once you've gotten rid of realm duress.

While Gulluoglu mentioned that being at war doubles the time (MTTH actually) for stability to go up, it multiplies the MTTH for ending realm duress by 10! So war = bad, if things are already bad in your realm. At the very least try to make wars short.

Thanks guys. My king ended up dying so realm duress ended anyway before I could really act on your advice.

Do realms you have the king title to always return to you? Because I have the King of Jerusalem and King of Egypt, but I'm mostly based in Naples. Keeping the vassals over there in the realm is a pain, but I thought if I let them go, I'd probably never get them back.

they will usually come back eventually .... the AI will try to pledge to their natural liege. This will only happen after either the revolting ruler or your ruler dies. As far as I know the revolter will never re-pledge to the liege he revolted from.

Seeing as your unpopular, realm duressed king just died, you should be in a good situation to see the all those rebellious dukes repledging to their natural liege, the new king.

In that case, you likely don't have stability at all in your game. I think it was only added with the Deus Vult expansion.

indeed :)

You seem to have not installed your Deus Vult expansion properly. Most likely you have it installed in a DV folder inside your CK folder?? ... you need to make sure it installs directly in the CK folder and overwrites all files :)
