Whenever I load a certain savegame (which I can make available upon request, I have it tucked away safely), EU2 bogs down completely, the animations get all choppy, the cursor moves in great jumps across the screen (every two seconds or so), etc. Trying to load some other game does not fix the problem.

Retreating to an autosave that occured a few months earlier does not suffer that problem. On the other hand, I got a CTD very quickly after loading it on my last try.

Loading the game a few more times seems to result rather more often in CTDs than bog downs. Usually, CTD is the result after at most a few months. Don't know if it's my computer that's instable, or if the game has a reached a point where it is "natural" to crash.

Well, after some experimentation I managed to get the stability of the game up a bit: using the config utility to turn off the music has stopped the game crashing.

But I am also suspecting that it is time to get a new PC. After Windows 2000, SP3 install, DHCP is broken and thus my Internet access (except to known IP numbers). Very odd, but nothing I can spend time on debugging currently.

try playing the music with WinAmp if you can.
