I got a new PC. I tried to install and play EU4 and it crashes. I searched online and tried deleting the steamapps common EU4 folder and the documents/paradox/eu4 folders, tried reinstalling. same thing. tried making sure my paradox account are linked. tried a third fresh install. still the same error:

cannot load files for unknown reason

this is not super helpful, paradox. how do i troubleshoot this now?

Is that message coming from Steam, our launcher, or the game? I don't recognise it.

honestly Idk...the error popped up after the game had initialized (post launcher), the music was playing and the loading screen was displaying messages. The crash message was displayed in a a generic MS Windows box.

I verified local files again and tried a fourth time and it worked...so maybe I had to verify the local files on Steam after I linked the Paradox and Steam accounts?

I also removed the four mods I had subscribed to, so maybe that was the issue.

I am sure you are right about that, as linking accounts does not change the local file on Steam in any way.
