so i get in select single player click on a scenario and go to click on a country. as soon as i do that it crashes back to desktop. any suggestions?

The game crashes just before it loads
I too am experiencing problems. The game fails to load and crashes out, seemingly at the last moment of the loading process. I keep getting an "Out of virtual memory" message, which is strange because I have 128MB virtual memory paging file.
It used to run and the only thing I have added since is Norton's Utilities and I loaded that because the PC was very slow and EUII was sometimes painfully slow to operate, but at least it never failed to load up. I used to get a similar message ocassionally with another game.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled (though that wasn't without its problems and had to amend the Registry etc. as per advice elsewhere on this site) and have the 1.05 patch installed.
I am running a Toshiba laptop, pentium 3 with 128 RAM.
Are there any suggestions on what may be the problem?

What happens if you let Windows handle your virtual memory ? If I understand it correctly, you have now a virtual memory with fixed size. Maybe after adding the Norton program, your virtual memory is too small.

I forgot to mention that I am using Windows 2000 Professional, if that makes any difference.
How do you get Windows to manage the virtual memory? It does seems like a virtual memory problem.

settings, control panel, system, click on settings (under performance), advanced, virtual memory, and then click change and select "system managed size" and click on set.
that was for XP but it should be the same for Win2k. if that doesn't work, go to the same place and select custom size. Initial and maximum size should be 1000 mb.

Thanks for the advice about virtual memory. It works now, albeit slowly. Considering I have a P3 PC with 128Mb RAM it does run surprisingly slow. The mouse pointer is slow and jerky despite trying different settings. But at least it's working.

reboot the computer and start EU2 before launching any other software and see if you still have the problem.
