Can't get game to start. Tried also "play" not just "continue" - it just crashed. No mods. But have almost all DLC's and Unit packs etc.

PS: Happened after the last update.

Add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list/whitelist of your antivirus app(s).

IF that doesn't help, DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

I'll chime in here.

Clean install (Several times) after 3.0.1 Crashes on "Loading graphics)"

Please don't "me too" post in other people's threads, especially several. I'd appreciate it if you made your own in future, thanks.

What AV app do you have?

Edit that setings.txt:
refreshRate=60
fullScreen=no
borderless=no

steam_rich_presence=no

Sorry, I actually thought it would be better to chime in with the same error. New to the bug reporting system :)

AVG. I added the CK2 directory to the exception list and it still crashes out at the same place.

I tried rolling back to a previous version, started fine, updated again to 3.0.1 and it crashed at the same point again.

Updated: Still crashing.

I bet you it is still AVG, that is second only to Avast as a problem for this game.

Use Notepad to make a new text file called userdir.txt in the Steam CK2 folder where ck2game.exe is. In that file place a single dot, save and exit. This tells the game to write the user files right there instead of under Documents.

Loaded this time. Any ideas why it would work fine under 3.0 but suddenly decide it has issues under 3.0.1?

Every time the .exe changes, antivirus apps will view it as suspicious.
Ok, I tried this, and this worked.
That means it was Avast causing your problem, almost certainly.
