Hey, whenever I play paradox games it seems as if there's always a problem. Here I am back at another forum and I have no idea why these crashes and freezes etc happen throughout the games, although I know that they should not be happening so frequently. Or they should not be so serious to the point of where the game cannot even be played at all.

it makes no sense, why a person would keep spending their own money on things that don't work up to the amount that they paid.

but anyway.. my game continuously crashes the second after I get past the blue Paradox development studio logo.. the message says,
"File exception:
Exception in:
C:\Projects\ClausewitzII\clausewitzlib\virtualfilesystem.cpp, line: 568.
Description: Could not open file: common/opinion_modifiers.txt"

now would this mean if I possibly went into the games files and delete this particular person / event idk, that this would be a cause for a fix? I'm not sure, and not even sure where to find the games "note" or where I would go to edit the "game logs" however the official name is, I don't know. these are only words to describe what I am looking to change.

I also receive this message from windows

attached my dxdiag as well.

Thank you and I apologize for this burden that is on both of us at this time.

Nothing to apologise for, you have every right to expect the game to work first off. Your experience aside the game has been very stable indeed for almost everyone, until some new problems occurred in the latest patch 1.04 - for which there is a tentative fix in the "1.04 beta" sticky thread above.

But your issue looks unique, and is most likely a bad download or installation (which can happen to any game, regardless of code quality). Not sure if you have the game from Steam or GamersGate, but a full clean reinstall is indicated:

Steam: uninstall the game, and manually delete all CK2 files and directories under the Steam AND the MyDocuments directories. Install it again, before playing use the Steam clinet option to "verify game cache" or whatever they call it.

GG: pretty much the same except they have no local client, so after the reinstall just run it up and hopefully you'll get past that error.

Thanks for the quick reply. Now I also have been playing it for quite a while, what would be the best way to go about storing my savegames for when I reinstall them?

if all it is, is moving the save files out of the savegame folder then replacing them after the game is reinstalled. then I'll be alright, if not.. any suggestions?

Yes, that's it, just move them out to the Desktop or anywhere handy. But I don't understand how you can have saved games, if you can't even run the game at all?

this isn't my first time that I have started up the game, I have been playing it for hours upon hours, previously.

it just randomly encountered this problem one day while I tried to start it up after playing a couple hours earlier in the day. It doesn't really make sense, that's why I thought maybe I could just go into the file and delete this "clausewitz" character or whatever it could be. so this might fix the problem. do you still think a reinstall is the best way after this info?

Yes, I do.
