Pretty annoyed about this issue, as it means i cant play the game at all!

The game loads up and gets to the menu screen, but if i try to click any button the game just freezes. I got the game 2 days ago so patch 1.4 was installed straight away (patch could be the issue, others seem to have similiar issues). I've tried re-installing the game 3 times, no difference.

I'm contemplating re-installing steam as a friend of mine sid that sorted empire total war out for him, though that seems a bit far!

I'm a noob when it comes to comp speak, but any help would be greatly appreciated, loved the demo and really want to play the game!!

The reason i think it may be a problem with steam is i've got hearts of iron 3, europa universalis, victoria 2 and sengoku all installed on this machine and they all work fine, and also are not linked to steam...

Can EVERYONE still having the hanging/crashing problem that's new with 1.04 please post their dxdiag.txt files - only from the start of the file down to the end of the "Sound devices" section is necessary, for brevity's sake. Thank you.

Ok, i think i got the patch installed ok (says 1.04b in bottom of menu) and checksum is TDCF. The single player button now works but the game freezes not long after, the right hand menu bar does not load (where i believe the vassal info should be?). So slight progress but still unplayable.

All drivers updated, did a complete uninstall before putting the patch in, still same issue (just a tiny bit further in), seem to have the correct checksum.

Maybe the full new patch will help?

I wouldn't bet on it. Do try a full clean re-install; move valued save games elsewhere, uninstall the game from Steam, manually delete all CK2 files and directories from under the Steam and MyDocuments directories, then re-install game via Steam. Now copy the whole CK2 directory structure from under Steam to somewhere new (eg c:\games\ck2-beta\ ) and apply this beta directly over that copy. Then manually run ck2.exe from that directory; it would be wise to point the user files somewhere other than the default so they don't overwrite your non-beta installation:
manually create a plain text file named userdir.txt. In this text file, put the path of where you would like the game to put save files and screenshots, e.g. D:\Miscellaneous\CK2stuff\.
