Game freezes on first screen

Hello, I just recently reinstalled hoi2 after a long hiatus. I had problems installing at first, turns out I didnt get all the old files off last time I manually uninstalled. So after some frustrating moments I got that fixed, and installed the game and patched it up to 1.3a. When I start the game it plays through the opening cinematics then freezes on the initializing screen. The game freezes as soon "initizlizing sound comes up". It wont allow me to alt-tab or ctl-alt-del out of it either, I have to reboot my comp. I reinstalled all the latest drivers on my computer, but that had no effect. I have tried uninstalling'reinstalling all to no effect. This strange because I never had any problems before.

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game.
2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
3) Set the color depth to 16BIT
4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
5) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Videocard and RAM.

I went form a Geforce4 4400Ti to my current, and doubled my RAM.

Well we can try to manipulate the acceleration on the sound card.
Turn the music back on by reverting the folder back to music.
Then try different notches on the sound driver acceleration, one way to reach that slider is in DxDiag on the music/sound tab.
