So my save seems to be corrupted somehow and it keeps crashing on the 3rd of September, 8073. Tried going back to earlier autosaves but it keeps crashing at this certain date. How can I find out what is causing the crash and/or fix it? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Running 0.92 with Submods:

Bloodlines
Legendary Warriors
More Decisions
More Flags
Congenital Overhaul
AGOT - Buildings

If you have the same error as I have (my game also always crashes on certain date), in the error log there are three errors about missing texture files at the end.

[texturehandler.cpp:181]: Couldn't find texture file: gfx//coats_of_arms//dynasties4_muslim.tga.
[texturehandler.cpp:181]: Couldn't find texture file: gfx//coats_of_arms//dynasties4_indian.tga.
[texturehandler.cpp:181]: Couldn't find texture file: .

I tried to fix it myself by copying and renaming some of the graphics files in the coat of arms -mod folder, which got rid two of them. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix that last line with unnamed texture file.

I would appreciate help so that at least I could create some kind of fix for my games while waiting for a patch. Paradox devs, or others with knowledge, any idea what causes the last error and is it possible for me to create some kind of template texture file it would use instead of crashing?

That error doesn't actually do anything and is not the source of your crashes.

I'd suggest disabling submods one by one and loading the savegame and see if you can play past that save date. Tbh I have a feeling there are incompatibilities between at least some of them.

Thanks Kapt, I disabled all submods (challenge to duel, more decisions) and DLC:s (everything there is, but nothing more than what the GoT says in the compatibility list) but it still crashed at the same date.

However apparently you are correct that the error is not related to the texture file. This time the error log went past the last one, now there was entry about unexpected token just before the crash:

[texturehandler.cpp:181]: Couldn't find texture file: .
[persistent.cpp:37]: Error: "Unexpected token: assassins, near line: 2088345
" in file: "save games/autosave.ck2" near line: 2088349

Not sure if that is related to the crash however.

try removing it in the savegame and see if it works (if you can ofcourse, open it)

Ok so I figured out that it was the Bloodlines submod that was causing the ruckus. I tried simply removing it, but this scrambled all the traits in the game - it even gave a few people traits I'm fairly sure they can't normally get (like "Ruler Customiser"). I then deleted all the files in the mod except the ones on the bloodline traits. Game still crashed. So I then went through all the great houses and manually deleted their bloodline traits in all living members. This seems to have done the trick... for now.

The game later kept crashing on October 13th the next year. I got around this by running the game with no submods past the crash point, and then loading it up again with the submods. Seems to have worked fine and game is still running. Would be nice to cleanly get rid of the Bloodlines submod but for now this seems to work. If anyone has any ideas on how to remove this submod without the traits getting scrambled around I'd be most appreciative.

ZeroFighteR, you advised to 'remove it in the savegame'. How does one do this? Remove what exactly? I have a similar error log. Of course my game is now running fine but still it'd be good to know.

This may not be anything you're doing. It's happening to quite a few people this patch, and I don't honestly know why. Of course, I'm not saying you shouldn't troubleshoot; Just bear in mind that you may not be able to fix it simply because you didn't cause it.

Do not use the same save when you delete a mod, it will cause issues.

And you can edit your savegame (if its not compressed) by going into my documents/paradox/ck2/a game of thrones/savegames and there you open the savegame with notepad(notepad++ advised to be used), you find that line and remove it.

Later on in this same game I kept running into another crash point. In the error logs I got a very similar line about assassins. What I did to fix this was I went through and deleted all the assassin-related files in More Decisions. I narrowed it even further down to the file: common/religions/assassin_religion.txt. Deleting this resolved this crash point and I seem to have a fairly stable game now, where as before it had started to crash every year or two. Hope this helps you.

Just want to add for other having a crash with More Decisions mod, I had a similar experience to Jellly. Deleting assassin_religion.txt by itself it did not help, but but deleting all the assassin related events/religion/decisions ect seemed to help. Fairly stable for now, though I did also use knuckey's fix from the thread "It always comes down to one ending - crash to desktop." Not sure which helped, but together they both seemed to help for now. I make no promises, but just help if I can, if not please just ignore me.
