Hi my game is not starting after installing Holy Fury, I get the launcher and then click play, the launcher dissapears and i get CK2 in my taskbar but the game does not load. in the task manager it shows as not responding. I have tried all suggestions mentioned on the sub, reinstalling the game, deleted all the mods, deleted the gfx file, updated my graphics driver, and added the game to my antivirus (windows defenders and malware bytes) exclusion list. I am getting desperate was really looking forward to playing this.

Yeahhh this DLC release has kinda been a shitshow imo

My CK2 went from:

-Working prior to HF and patch
-Not working all day after HF/Patch, CTD when loading or shortly after loading
-Started working and ran all night yesterday perfectly fine after HF/patch despite not working earlier
-Then returned to not working when I woke up this morning, CTD when loading or shortly after loading

I am so tired of patches and releases essentially breaking this game, and going to support and having them tell me the same repetitive non-solutions acting as if it is some problem on my system

My game went from working to not working multiple times despite me not having changed anything at all,. its not an issue on my end, or my firewall, or files missing, or a download error, it was the changes to the game made on your end
I love paradox but having DLC completely screw up my game for days on end is not my idea of value for money or a good time

With Windows Defender, if you have Controlled Folder Access feature enabled you also need to add ck2game.exe to the "Apps Allowed through" list there. Not sure if Malwarebytes has additional steps needed too.

Did the /gfx/ folder get recreated?

Controlled folder access was disabled but i added it to that anyway, /gfx/ folder got created with a file inside called test but nothing else, game is still not working though after adding it.

Well something is sure getting in the way, 99% of the time it is an AV app. I'm not aware of MalWarebytes being one of the problem ones, but I guess that must be it if WD is really taken care of.

Use Notepad to make a new text file called userdir.txt in the Steam CK2 folder where ck2game.exe is. In that file place a single dot, save and exit. This tells the game to write the user files right there instead of under Documents. If that works and the game now runs, you can replace that dot with any file path you like.

Ok that worked, also not sure if this belongs here but i was facing the same issue with Stellaris and tried doing the same with it and it fixed that aswell. thank you for your support.

Ok i might have spoken to soon it worked once then i changed the setting from borderless to fullscreen it loads to the taskbar and i can hear the music but nothing else

Note:
ok managed to get it working again by messing with the settings file. so to point it to the user files just put the path for the folder in documents instead of the dot?

That is a separate issue caused by recent Windows 10 updates for some nVidia users.

Well, if you point it to the same place that the game would naturally try to create those files, Documents/paradox/ck2/ then it will have the same problem it did before of course.

The fact userdir.txt works indicates that this is an issue with one of your AV apps, really.
