Thanks for the Prayers but they didn't work. I ended up having to format my hard drive to zeros. Now I have spent all morning reinstalling everything I installed yesterday. I am scared to even install it as I am leaving for a business trip and I don't think my wife would like it if I left her internetless for the next 3 days. I will install again on Friday and see what happens. Hopefully I won't waist all next weekend fixing this dam computer.

Again thanks for all the help, I'll be back on Friday to let you know if things are working.

Jesse

Hello,

Well Gateway had me remove the little battery that resets RNV memory or something like that and that allowed me to get the games installed. Just waiting for HOI 1.03 to come out in NA before I try that one but I am gonna try EU now and see what the results are.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,
Jesse

Man....this sure is a prime example of computer hell. I'm rooting for you J.

Hello,

Well, I just got off the phone again, if you haven't guessed that last attempt didn't work.

Now in Gateway's most experienced judgement they are sending me a new power supply to install.

Here is the kicker, all the time since the problem started my fan has not been working, so it appears to be getting hot and turning itself off and won't allow me to restart via the power button because of safety reasons.

I wish I would have talked to this guy first instead of the previous 10 people that never thought of this. I could have saved myself about 40 hours of booting, loading, swearing and frustration.

I hope this is the problem.

I'll update you next week (3-5 days shipping) after I get the part and install it and let you know if it works.

Thanks,
Jesse

The fan not working is a very serious problem!
I hope it has not dammaged anything else.
*Crosses fingers for you*

The fan not working is a very serious problem!

I know, he seems to think everything else will be ok since it is shutting itself down when it gets hot.

If not that is why I bought the extended warrenty. This computer is the first time I have ever had to use it and it has gotten me a new modem, CD burner, and now power supply, well worth the money. To bad I have had to deal with all these problems when the computer is less than a year old.

I am thinking it is a good thing that the warrenty is good for 3 years, and that it only cost me $119.00. It is the first time a warrenty that I have bought actually paid for itself.

The part comes tomorrow but I won't be back to install it until Friday so I won't know if it fixes the problem until then.

Thanks,
Jesse

Wow you made out good on that deal!
Let us know how it goes.

I've always thought of those extended warantees as being the vendor's principal source of profit on system sales (they flog a $2000 system at close to cost and then get you to cough up another 10-15% for the extended warranty that most people never use) but they certainly are nice when you run into problems. I almost always get them when I upgrade my laptops but usually shied away from them on desktop systems. Now I'm thinking that maybe it isn't such a bad idea for those after all.

Let us know how it turns out.

Hello,

That power supply had a ton of cables and took me awhile to figure out were they went but it is finally installed and ready to go.

I will let you know if it did the trick,
Jesse

Edit: Well it seems to have done the trick (crosses fingers), I have been playing for an hour without the computer going into hibernation.

Lets hope things continue to go my way and bring on 1.06 :) now that my comptuer is being cooperative.

Thanks for all the help guys and if this happens to someone else suggest that they check to make sure their fan is working :)

Jesse

I love the smell of victory!

I'll certainly keep that in mind in the future but that was definitely a new one on me.
