Have you perhaps modified the game files somewhat or installed a modification?

Anyways, a re-install of both the game and the patch never hurts. In addition to the 1.04a you could try installing the latest beta patch found in the beta subforum, although they have introduced some novel crashbugs many of the old ones are fixed. And you'll get all kinds of fancy new stuff like targeted crusades and multitude of new events.

If you keep running onto trouble just let me know. If you end up with a crashing save with the beta patches please don't delete it, those are precious to the developers.

I have not modified the game except to install patch 1.4a. I reinstalled the game last night and was able to run for approximately two hours. Just when I was really getting into the game (poor Lodin finally had an heir) the game crashed to desktop.

Do you mean that you have a single CTD for several hours of playing? Or that you get a CTD after playing several hours and then it repeats itself often after that?

Just one CTD per several hours of playing is very acceptable rate imo and if you use autosaves on yearly interval, you will at tops lose about one year of gameplay. While CTDs are very annoying, it's practically impossible to make the game completely CTDless on every machine and every configuration, especially since often the CTD might be caused by some background process or some resource lack at some point or whatever.

If it is crashing on you repeatedly within short time interval, then it's more serious problem and would need taking a look into, but if it's just a random CTD on over an hour interval, I would suggest that you resort to yearly autosaving. :)

Sigh...still crashing after a few hours of play.

To get it fixed I'll need a save that crashes with 100% certainty soon after loading it. The best way to get one is to put the autosave to minimum frequenzy when playing. If it crashes then load the autosave and save under a different name and continue playing to see if you now get past to another autosave point. If not, then zip the save and let me know of it, if yes then play until it crashes again.

A crash every couple of hours of playing is not acceptable by no means. Unfortunately that's how CK is with the beta patches:(

Whenever I have a CTD, I always reboot my computer before starting CK again. I find if I don't do this it makes it much more likely I will get another crash a short while later.

Also, I find if things "get busy" (lots of armies moving about) the game is more likely to crash, but you can reduce the risk by reducing the game speed (it tends anyway to get unstable at very high speeds).

Finally, the game needs at least 256 MB RAM to run, it may not perform properly on older computers that have less RAM than this.

Hope this helps.

I have just 192 MB RAM myself and am able to play CK well. Though I never put speed on higher than Above Normal.

:rofl:
Seems you spend too much time with poorly programmed software. ;)

Strange, almost evey game I play and software I use works without any crashes. Even in HOI or EU2 hardly ever crash. But CK is really a pain.
So I put it aside and play CIV3 again till the 1.5 for CK is released.

Agreed. I get a CTD about every 30-45 minutes of game play with the latest beta, it's annoying but I don't get pissy about it because it IS a beta patch. I do wish it would get fixed though...

Saves, saves, I want crashing saves;)

Ctd

I got a saved game that does CTD as the game is loading up :(
I click on denmark, load it up and when the green line goes across the screen... it just CTD. No Mods no nothing :(

Want the saved filed?

No, but could you open the save with Notepad and then post the last 10-20 lines if the file is truncated anywhere except in the province ID block. If that's where it's broken then we've found that bug and the fix will be in the next beta.

And just a reminder to some posters...in the Public beta FAQ I clearly point out that beta test patches will often have problems in them that cause all sorts of weirdness or crashes. The purpose of beta-testing it is to find all of these and fix them...particularly the things that aren't instantly-discoverable. Sorry. Crashing is part of beta (a very large part, actually).

Only for latest BETA or? I play 1.4 and got a save that always crashed on the 30 March in the year I was on, with three tries the same result. I can check with the latest BETA too if that helps.
That would be of help, yes :) And, could you zip it and mail me at havard at crusader-kings.com?

Ctd!!!

Got a saved game, count of corsica. Saved the game when something significant happens (which isn't often). I try to load the game, it crashes before it reloads. Last few lines are:

include = "db\events.txt"

interface = {
mouse = { x = 571 y = 552 }
map = { x = 3664 y = 3692 }
zoom = 2
group1 = { }
group2 = { }
group3 = { }
group4 = { }
group5 = { }
group6 = { }
group7 = { }
group8 = { }
group9 = { }
group0 = { }
}

The save game RIGHT before it is different:

include = "db\events.txt"

interface = {
mouse = { x = 581 y = 552 }
map = { x = 3664 y = 3692 }
zoom = 2
group1 = { }
group2 = { }
group3 = { }
group4 = { }
group5 = { }
group6 = { }
group7 = { }
group8 = { }
group9 = { }
group0 = { }
}

combat = {
id = { type = 4712 id = 224670 }
province = 779
date = { year = 1138 month = april day = 22 }
phase = front
phase_counter = 1
attacker_losses = {
heavy_cav = 94.000
light_cav = 4.000
archers = 2.000
heavy_inf = 239.000
}
defender_losses = {
light_cav = 10.000
archers = 33.000
heavy_inf = 110.000
militia = 78.000
}
attackers = { { type = 4712 id = 221043 } { type = 4712 id = 214229 } }
defenders = { { type = 4712 id = 213012 } }
}

Should I try to reproduce this? Just wondering :)
Thanks for all the Beta's hard work, some of us <3 you!
