First, let's eliminate mods, as until they are updated by their authors they can cause problems after any new game patch. Please add --disableModding to the game's Steam launch options. Then start a new test city - do you still get these crashes then?

If so, please try this: Rename the "Cities Skylines II" folder in your C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order (to whatever you want) and then start the game. To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

The game will create a new clean CS2 folder and if that works it means that something in your original folder is corrupt and preventing the game from starting. Do NOT delete your original folder though as your saves are stored there and if you want to keep playing you'll need to move them over to the new fresh folder!

Let us know if that helps you. Good luck!

Okay, thanks for the guidance. I tried everything as suggested. So by renaming the Colossal Order folder, I see that now the game does make it to the main menu. So I went ahead and started a new game. It seems to play just fine. Okay, so now, the question is: how do I check which items in the old AppData folder are good and which are bad?

After playing with a new city for a few minutes, I start to remember some of the quirks that I couldn't seem to work out before. For instance, something is causing the Increase Elevation modifier to stay on permanently, so that when I try to build a road, it just goes sky high. Another issue is that I find the mouse speed difficult to keep constant. I'll play the game, it seems too fast, so I go to options and reduce the sensitivity, and it seems okay, but then suddenly if I switch applications and come back to CS2, then the mouse seems way too fast again. FYI, I play with a wacom tablet and a huion keydial in place of a mouse and keyboard.

Move the save files back one by one, testing after each one - you'll soon see which are bad.

Yuck! That process is a bit too tedious for my patience level. It's been so long since I've had time to play, I'm content just to start fresh and keep the other stuff offline until later. I'll focus on getting my controllers and key bindings set up.
