Ok, I had to re-format and re-install Win98. I've done it two or three times in the past to keep my system running smoothly and EU2 always would install, patch and then run. But, not this time.

I installed it to C:/Europa Universalis 2, then ran the 1.05 patch and the 1.05 fix. Then, I d-Click on the icon and... The HDD light flickers for a few moments and then nothing happens. I checked the shortcuts to make sure they were correct, they were. I restarted my PC, hoping then it'll work but, no.

Could you help me?

I read some of the thread below me and renamed the avi forder and it still won't work.

My PC description:
AMD Duron 1000mhz
512Mb SDRam
20GB HD
18GB HD
50x CD
ATI Radeon 8500 128mb DDR
Newest BIOS upgrades
Latest drivers for all components
DirectX 8.1

There is nothing new before/since my format/reinstall.

I wonder if somehow something survived from the previous installation and got embedded incorrectly in the registry? I think the first step I'd try is to follow the compete uninstall procedure and then reinstall it once more on the off chance that this is the case. Let me know if that works, and if it doesn't then we'll try the next step after that.

I do not think you need that 1.05fix do you?

IIRC it only adresses the broken scenario editor in the SF version of the patch so no, it's not necessary unless he wants to use the editor. IMO, though, the editor is still too dicey with many people's systems to be considered as anything other than a little freebie perk for people lucky enough to have the right configuration. Most of us (myself included) have to do it the hard way. :)

At first, uninstalling it and then reinstalling it didn't work but, then I remembered you saying something about the registry so, i looked in it and the old entries were still there. I used Norton WinDoctor to clean up the registry and remove outdated entries. Now, it works.

Thank You Very Much for your Help.

Our pleasure. Actually you'll note that one of the steps in the uninstall procedure I linked above is to remove the registry key that often gets left behind.... ;)

Anyway, I'm glad you're up and running. :)
