Hope you guys can help me!

I love EU2 and I have played it for years and years now, but now it suddently won't start.

My PC asked me to update the internet the other morning, which I did, then I wanted to play a little and the game wouldn't start. The screen turns black but I still see the blue line in the bottom of the screen. I waited ten min for the game to launch, then pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL, deleted the job and suddently the BlinkVideo began. I then saw the "This game is dedicated to our fans" and the Vision Park logo Elephant which runs across the screen, but then the video ends and the games doesn't launch (crashes to Desctop). I tried it a few times, and the video doesn't come unless I 'cancel the job' in CTRL-ALT-DEL.
I tried to reinstall the game, repair the game and it doesn't change anything. I read the Support Forum FAQ and Self-Help Guide, but it seems the answer should be to install the lates OS (???) and DirectX to my computer, however, I believe it was when I did this, my problems started!

My PC is an HP Pavilion dv2000, I should have enough memory and when I reinstalled it the game said I had and directX more advanced then the one needed (I have DirectX 9.0) so I didn't have to install a new one. I have Windows XP.

I played the game a lot on this PC, haven't installed any mods whatsoever, so I'm almost heartbroken that I cant do it anymore and any kind of suggestions are very welcome!

Have you tried renaming the Avi folder to something else? Did you try changing your color depth to 16-bit? Does anything else on your computer not work now?

And, perhaps most importantly, can you post your tech specs (mainly the output from the dxdiag -> Save All Information button)?

I am pretty sure it is the AVI folder. Just rename Bink to something random and it should work.

C:/Program Files/Strategy First/ Europa Universalis 2/ avi

Rename the avi folder or rename the bink application inside and it should work.
