I haven't had internet all week outside of the coffee shop so i'm extending the deadline for orders to Sunday, 8 PM EST.

I will be providing updates tomorrow night once AT&T comes fixes their stuff.

Turning Point

A convoy of half naked wastelanders drove through the hustle and bustle of Columbus Square where the elite forces of the mayor's guard unit were resting after their early morning exercises. They ate potato and vegetable stew which could be detected from outside the mayor's headquarters, the motorized warriors were starving.

Their pickup truck still had its machine gun but only four men were on board, the rest they said had been lost on their way back from the northern upstart, Carnac. The group approached the mayor's compound and quickly disembarked walking toward the food and water.

"What are you doing!" a voice worn by time but carrying with the energy of a man with power roared out from the wooden deck

The wastelanders stopped and stood quietly too nervous to do anything. The more courageous of the group finally broke the silence.

"We haven't eaten in three days boss!"

Standing on his wooden deck was the Mayor and even as he grows weaker every day his presence alone demanded your total focus and respect. The Guards of Columbus had snapped to attention.

"You eat when you bring me your report! Now get in here." the Mayor had greying black hair like the color of the sky eighteen years ago, when the dream of the Hub came to him. Despite his age he stood upright and walked with a quick pace. No one could tell that he was dying of the cancer.

The group of soldiers entered the command compound where the Mayor and his advisors discussed the problems coming from the Black Plains. Telephones were constantly ringing in the comm room as administrators compiled reports of the daily activity of the settlement through a system of spies, bureaucrats, and allies. Printers produced thousands of documents that were organized and copied. A high quality projector provided the room with maps and visuals of the Panhandle.

"So I take it that the raiders have returned to their activities?" the Mayor spoke while reading a report on the famine in the south

The brave one spoke up, "Yes suh, our boys got pretty messed up out there. They got heavy machine guns, rocket launchers….and suh they..they got some kind of weapon…the round comes out of nowhere from the sky!"

The Mayor looked up from the page. His face not revealing sudden anxiety. He dismissed the group and ordered that be fed double rations for their heroism.

"How the hell can they have mortars?" Jason Luther, a young man of twenty three, the son of the Mayor, the other generals didn't like the way he spoke his words but he was a talented general which they could not dispute.

A general, Curtis put up a slide on the projector, a map of the Black Plains with strategic markers and the latest troop movements of the region.

"Our spies tell us that Crystal Palace is givin these blak dogs arms and food. They tryin to keep this Carnac place from civilizing the region. It looks like this Glickman character might be legitimate."

"They have this Brack living with them. The Nashites can't be allowed to settle in the Black Plains." Luther spoke with confidence in his calculation

The mayor picked up a plastic folder full of Stanhope's reports from Carnac.

"Carnacian people exhibit civilized behavior. Cannibalism is ostracized here but reformed cannibals are allowed to settle in their housing sector. Their leader Ralph Glickman is a talented administrator and their population has doubled this Summer because of the raids across the Black Plain. Their lower classes are vocal and often wait around their central compound for news of the Council's decisions. They have multiple factions but I only have concerns for the growth of the Virgilists there. For now they are tolerated and useful but they are feared."

The mayor stopped reading, "Carnac is our only hope for civilization in the Black Plains. We must support them every way we can. Jason, I wan't you to take an army of one hundred soldiers and three of our motor squads to Crystal Palace. Detach and go with a guard squad and request to speak with Mr. Netter. Our terms are simple, we know that they are supplying raiders with high quality armaments and we want them to stop. If they refuse then replace Mr. Netter with somebody who will cooperate."

The generals were taken aback, Curtis responded with concern, "Suh the Citadel won't like this one bit. Marshall and his boys are crazy enough to come down here and fight us if it means the end to slave exports to Atlanta."

"Jacob Marshall is the most dangerous man in the wasteland. He brings with him the dark ages and we are the light. Always remember that gentlemen."

Battle of the Trenches

On the black dirt of the northern plains the army of Jason Luther laid waiting in two ten foot deep trenches surrounding a plot of land that was being excavated for walls. One hundred of the Hub's best soldiers cleaned their weapons, ate soup, or worked digging out the dirt in work cycles. It was pitch black when Luther's transport arrived back at the trenches, the meeting had taken a turn for the worst.

To his generals he said "They say no. I don't know what they have but they're going to fight. Alert the soldiers! "

The Hubbite army ended their work and took to their arms. Officers received the word that an army of slavers was coming, ready the men for battle. Soon after the alert a strange sound began to emanate from the sky and then lights.

"Soldiers! Open fire!" Luther ordered

Rockets shot into the sky toward the helicopters that came flying overhead. The battle had begun.

Hub Army
Leader: General Jason Luther
3 Guards of Columbus Squads (30 soldiers)
5 Regular Assault Squads (50 soldiers)
5 Machine Gun Teams (10 soldiers)
2 Mortor Teams (10 soldiers)
3 Motorized Squads (15 battle vehicles)

Versus

Slaver/Citadel Army
Leader: Ernest Netter (assisted by General Thickneck of the Citadel)
10 Slaver Groups (200 soldiers)
5 Citadel Shock Troopers (50 soldiers)
10 Machine Gun Teams (20 soldiers)
5 Mortar Teams (10 soldiers)
3 Before Time Transport Helicopters
1 Before Time Helicopter Gunship

Immediately the Hub army knew that they were facing a different kind of enemy. Rumors of flying weapons were known in the southern panhandle but now the soldiers of the Hub were facing them in battle. The helicopter guns fired rounds into the trenches killing fifteen men. in the distance the slavers yelled to their slave soldiers "come on boys get a move on, this is supper for tonight!"

Shreaks of cannibals came echoing out of the darkness and so General Luther ordered his men to open fire toward their voices while rockets missed the demonic birds of a different age. The trenches did provide substantial cover for the Hubbite troops and the slaver army was easy to find and pick off. Streams of old uranium and wasteland produced rounds flooded the sky. Mortar shells came in with coordinates provided by the helicopters.

The motor squads circled the trenches returning fire but as the helicopters came by for another volley they broke apart and charged the incoming mass of infantry. There they shocked by hundreds of soldiers approaching their comrades behind them. A pitched battle began between fearless (or terrified) slave soldiers trying desperately to climb onto the vehicles speeding in between their ranks. This was proving futile until Netter ordered his mortars to fire into the vehicles and promising to repay his generals for the loss of property.

Mortar shells fell onto the chaos below and began striking vehicles. Rockets flew into more vehicle from an advancing line of shock troopers from Atlanta. Luther seeing his motor squads disintegrating rallied his men and prepared for the onslaught of foot soldiers. The gunship returned for another attack when a veteran rocket troop fired a shell right into the cockpit, its crash helped reinvigorate the Hub army.

Other helicopters were flying Citadel troops close by in all directions but the main force was coming from Crystal Palace. The motor squads had fallen apart and only three of their vehicles managed to return to the trenches to prepare for a last stand. As the shrieking horde assisted by the well armed and trained Citadel soldiers came into range the Hubbites opened fire. They saw dozens go down but still they continued running forward, any slave who retreated was promptly shot.

A Typical Soldier from Atlanta

Citadel troops coming from the helicopters entered into range forcing the Hub force to split their firepower on three sides. Finally they fell into the trenches and a bloody melee ensued in the rear trench. The frontal squads further split their firepower and began shooting into the mass in an attempt to subdue the break. Not wanting to be taken alive and harvested for slave food some men threw grenades at the largest contingent of enemy killing many of them.

Nothing though could hold back the frontal assault as dozens of cannibals flooded into the trench and began tearing apart many of the Hub soldiers. General Luther bloodied and exhausted crawled to a box of mortar shells, hit them on their rears and threw them into the slave horde still pouring in from above the trench. He shouted, "Death to the dark ages!" as cannibals ripped him to pieces.

As morning arrived the battlefield was silent. The sunlight fell onto the wastes revealing hundreds of bodies. Luther's army managed to kill most of the slaver's army but in the end they were too many to overcome. Only one man survived, a messenger who was sent during the battle back to Hub City to inform the Mayor of their defeat.

Results: Hub City loses prestige. The defeat has struck terror in the people and many people are migrating into the larger settlements not only near the Hub but in the Black Plains region as well.

So although my internet will hopefully be fixed in the coming days i've decided to officially end this game.

I apologize for the confusion on stats and setting. I was trying something new and i've learned some things that will make my next game better. I hope you guys will join me for that adventure :]

I'm very sorry to hear that, is there something going wrong with it beyond you're 'net difficulties? It seemed to be going well.
If not perhaps you'd reconsider?

Its just I executed the game poorly and I feel like if I could reboot the setting but with a high degree of setting development before we start it could work much better.

I also felt that there really wasn't a lot of IC which is partially my fault because the game world was too mysterious.
