As the title says really.

I own all DLC and I am up to date on patches.

For years there has been an issue in CK2 where certains sounds just... stop. Clicking on things, certain events don't have sound, etc. It randomly happens for no reason. The music is always fine, its the sounds when you interact with things that die off.

I've used multiple laptops/PCs and always had the same random issue, but it seems to happen more of late for some reason.

Not that I'm aware of, indeed it does not at all seem to be a universal problem.

Does not affect Stellaris, EU4 or HOI4 I assume?

Nope, just CK2. It's a strange one. I remember playing the game years ago and having to restart every 30 mins when the sounds broke, then it mostly went away for a while, but in the past week or so it has started happening again. All sound drivers etc are up to date so I am quite stumped!

Well, if it comes and goes with no change in the game itself it must be something outside the game. What I am not sure.

This is only sound effects? Not music or ambient sounds?

Do you have multiple sound channels, if so does it matter which one is in use?

Well, I play the game on two systems, my PC and my laptop, and the issue occurs on both so I am not sure if it is my machines that are at fault. It also only ever occurs on CK2. I don't have any special sound devices, just some generic speakers for my PC and the built in sound software for my laptop. All drivers are up to date also.

The music never fails, it is mainly things like the clicks when you open tabs etc, it either dissapears completely, or goes very annoyingly quiet. There are multiple threads about it through google which I tried first but none of them have an answer. Other things that fail are things like troop movement sound, plot notification sound, etc.

Suggestion:
Options/Settings - Audio
Check or uncheck the box for "Dynamic Ambient Sounds".
Quit and restart the game and see if that changes anything.
