I used to play the game on release, been gone from it for a while now, but I'm interested in getting back in!

The only thing that annoyed me from the last time, was the inability to pick or decide on your own breakthroughs. I could spend a dozen hours settling into a map, only to discover that my favorite tech wasn't there.

Seems they've added a lot to the game while I was away, so does that include a way to decide on your own breakthroughs?

Or has the dev still stubbornly refused to do anything of the sort?

Last time, I used mods to reveal what breakthroughs were on the map and then constantly restarted whenever they didn't suit me. My mods are out of date now, so if the dev has been annoying, does anyone know of any good mods or additions for me to get my breakthroughs?

ChoGGi's expanded Cheat menu is the best way to quickly unlock a map's breakthroughs to see what is where before committing?

As far as I know, the breakthroughs are tied to the map seed and can't be changed. Unless modded in through a Commander Profile or Sponsor, or discovered through the telescope thingy.

there are at least two cool mods that grant your more flexibility in breakthroughs

first to mention is breakthrough cherry picking, everytime a breakthrough anomalie is researched, the mod grants you up to 4 breakthroughs (can change that in mod options mod ingame) to pick one of them, you never know which you will find but you can pick 1 from 4 is great

second to mention is research exposure, what it does is to grant you ALL breakthroughs to research right from start, their cost will be higher after the 20 up to 80k, the mod brings a cap where you can cap the cost at 40k, it has also another option in game rules which made all breakthroughs appear random, that means if you start a game and your favorites or must haves are at the end of the list and you like them earlier, just hit ESC and restart map, it will shuffle them again.. you can do that as much often you like until you find a setup that fit your needs, as all breakthroughs are discovered, it will replace breakthrough anomalies with the "key anomaly"

i use the 2nd one for long time now, its updated and works perfect
