I have been playing the fantasy Burgundy scenario in the IGC (actually, if EU started somewhat earlier, it would be a historical option, so it is not that much out of place).

It's now 1570, and the war(s) with France have resulted in Burgundy holding about half of France's territory, so it's going nicely. But....

No admirals, no explorers, and no conquistadores. Most importantly, no colonists! I have llloked at the IGC1492 file, set dynamism on, made Burgundy a colonizing nation, even altered the colonists.csv file to add an extra column with data for Burgundy, but nothing works. It's not just that I can't get the existing game altered, but trying to run ICGconfig anew and starting a new game does not seem to help either.

I can edit the game file and give myself colonists every few years, but that is rather boring.

Is there a way to make Burgundy a colonizing nation (not more than France). Help would be most appreciated - by the way, the IGC is a great addition to EU!

I don't WANT to turn refomed (Spain, Portugal and France aren't protestant, but have colonists), and changing colonists.csv works (thanks) but that takes away colonists from another country, doesn't it?

Ceci n'est pas un vrai pays...

You have to take away colonists from another country since the game engine only reads a finite number of tags from colonists.csv and adding isn't an option. However you can do something else, give two shipyards to Burgundy and refrain from using them to build massive navies. That will give you 2 colonists a year, I think thats enough.

I think you should do the same thing as I did. Just give them Shipyard in Holland, and here you go!

If your Burgundy is in the lowlands, like it is in the IGC, you could probably switch the colonists.csv files of Holland to Burgundy. Holland wouldn't be needing them since presumably it wouldn't appear. Though I'm not sure how well this would work...

It is a event wich gives you colonists.
You can use it once in a year, i do not know the number but im sure someone here knows.

Burgundy stretches from the lowlands to the south of France, and surrounds Paris, so it was doubtful whether it wuld be worthwhile to convert. The Dutch revolt happened, but the Netherlands were limited to one province. Didn't matter that much, really.

More importantly, I changed colonists.csv by altering the last column (USA) into BUR, and also changed dynamism to 'on' etc. The changes in colinists.csv were crucial however. Some experimentation showed that a value of 300 would give 3 colonists a year, and 200 2. I left it there to avoid making the game too simple.

With these changes, I found Burgundy interesting. The challenge in the beginning is to keep the French off your back. Bu creating an alliance with Spain that proved feasible.

Now, to vassalize Hungary...

Cheating? Interesting point of view...

Burgundy is just a fun fantasy option; say it survived to the period covered by the game. Would a country that had some of the richest real estate in Europe in it (Flanders), and that covered parts of what in reality became France, have become a colonial nation or not? Obviously, there's no way to know. I thought that this might just be possible, as the respective areas in reality did have colonial tendencies. So I thought that a Burgundy scenario without any colonial tendencies would not be realistic. Perhaps the IGC creators thought otherwise; perhaps there were other reasons not to implement colonialism in this scenario (it's not easy); that's fine with me.
