Help with crash?

I am playing the Fantasia scenario in single player mode as the Inca's. Anyway, I get to about January 17 1573 and the game crashes. At first I just figured it was because I was playing for a long time so I restarted the computer, but it crashes on the same date every time. I haven't had a crash that I can remember before, but I don't think I've been this late in the game except maybe once before. I have an AMD Athlon 700, an Asus GeForce video card, I'm running Windows 98SE, and I have 256 meg of RAM. Any ideas on what might be causing the problem? Oh, and I'm also running version 1.8 of the game.

Hmmmmmm... Nobody can help me? I can verify it happens exactly on the 17th and not just around there, and I am running version 1.08 of the game. Just in case those tidbits help somebody help me.
