I have a great new picture for House Bolton! Okay, it isn't new. In fact you will all be familiar with it. Now you may discuss this amazing knowledge amongst yourselves. Preferably at length and amongst each other. I hope you all have as much fun reading it as I did playing the game with the better GFX.

If you're playing AFFC, what you are seeing is the flag of The North which is the highest title Roose owns at the time. All the actual Bolton flags look fine to me.

They did a very well job for the Boltons on the show though, kinda feel more sympathetic to them than Stannis after the last episode I have to say.

Also Roose Bolton lacks pink in the show. this is what he should be wearing.

Apologies but I do not find the pastel pink 'creepy' but rather uninspiring, clearly artifical and as human hide would look very similar to leather after having been flayed off the body for any length of time I can only say that the color choices in the show both for the sigil and the general attire for house Bolton is vastly superior from an artistic, stylish, and intimidation points of view.

Your points are all valid of course, but as far as i know, the mod tries to stay as faithful to the books as possible, and the flag is true to the book.

Though to add on Niander's post, all are welcome to make a submod portraying the sigil from the show instead :D

In my opinion, I think the devs can - and should - make their own judgments. Yes, it's faithful to the books, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't use the show as inspiration where the show does better.

Now, my personal opinion - I think the show does the sigils better than the books. The show's sigils are just more iconic and well-known, so IMO, they should be used. If I knew anything about modding, I'd make a submod myself doing just that, but alas, I do not. But that's not to say the book's aren't bad, I just think the show does it better.

That is not how we do it though, we only use our judgements when there is now genuine source. Lore is done in the order of Books written by GRRM, the world book, the show, official games, our own ideas. This way we keep as faithful to the lore as possible.

I totally understand that and agree with you. That said, on this exact point, I'd like to argue a distinction between lore and artwork. What is the impact on the rest of the game if you take a sigil or two (or even all of them) from the TV show? Unlike, say, using Sansa's show plot, which would have dire consequences on game balance and throw everything out of whack, it would do literally nothing but change the banners. The distinction I make regarding portraits is, "Lore is giving Sansa auburn hair; art is giving her a particular hairstyle."

The claim that the mod is taking after the books first is all well and good. In this instance no favors or service is being done to anyone/thing by using this truly awful sigil. Red teardrops on a pink field? (Insert snickers from all the children) Lame! It really is dreadful and not in an 'inspires dread' sort of way but in a 'this is really a poor choice artistically to immortalize our Dynasty' way. If it wont be changed hey, I can live with that but lets not kid ourselves into saying that this choice is for the integrity or preservation of some sacred or special thing here. The better banner is clear.

We are a book mod first and foremost so that is what we are sticking with and we are in fact preserving what the lore has given us... :p
