I have noticed that the AI players sometimes have alliances with six member nations. All that I can ever get is four nations in an alliance. How do I achieve these huge alliances? Is the fifth nation refusing because of rivalries with other alliance members? Any insights?

I just cant get any nation to join my alliance after the fourth nation. I have +200 relations and they refuse to join. If I reload and pick that nation as my fourth, then they will join, but the fifth nation that I choose always refuses. Even if the fifth nation is my vassal, with +200 relations, they still refuse to join my alliance. I'm doing this with numerous reloads, trying to figure out what is going on.

It seems to be easiest to start the alliance with the least likely member. Someone with a +0 relationship works. Then go for the member with the +90. Then pick up the all the guys with the +200 relationships.

I have about decided that the larger the alliance becomes the less chance there is of getting any new members, but that is just a guess. I was hoping that someone could shed some light on this. Pretty soon I'm going to give up on this little 'test' and just continue my game.

Of course! Heh

Thank you Huszics! I'll have to look into that, but now that you mention it I am sure that two of those countries I was trying to get into 'my' alliance had Casus Belli against each other. They most likey despised each other.

If the game stores the random number seed in the save file then reloading won't change the results of actions done in the same sequence. Try some other diplomacy command before you try the fifth nation (though it seems like cheating to me ;) )
